Super Rugby AU Round 9 - Brumbies, v. Force, Friday 28 August 7:05pm AEST (5:05pm AWST)

Nice. Well deserved - she’s certainly put the time in.

I’m actually starting to go cold on Nasirani as a locked in starter. Which is very harsh, because on form, and with the benefit of incumbency he would be there. But somewhere we need to make a change to improve our lineout. The only possible threat I could see to Hooper was by Wright - and...

    Wallabies 2020

Just a random, rather left field idea - pick the best 23 players and let the young blokes win a spot if/when they earn it. We finally have some top level experienced props who are generally performing well and we want to leave 3 of them out???? I’ll pass.

Are you seriously arguing he isn’t the form half Tomkin?

I agree with most of that Barbs - but I guess my point with Phipps, and the reason it’s relevant here is that plenty of people saw value in Phipps because of the attributes he bought to the table despite him being sub-standard in the half backs core skills. I agree that Powell is solid, not...

    Wallabies 2020

His passing was below standard for a test half. He wasn’t putting every second pass above the targets head, but he did spray them far too much. Which was shame because the rest of his game was top shelf. So, when he did get it right he tended to be very good because all the other elements of his...

I never understood the value of that when he sprayed them like a shot gun.

Well - this conversation is making me feel less confident in our half back stocks.

Agree with all that and love that there is a bit of ‘local bloke hangs in there, does his time, comes good.’

Super Rugby AU Round 8 - Brumbies vs Waratahs @ Canberra Stadium - Saturday 22 August @ 7.15pm

I think it’s incredibly tough to mark them down for the offside call. Like they said - there was no clear evidence. Well, unless you count the line that ran between the two players which the kicker was behind and the try scorer was in front of.

    Wallabies 2020

Yes - I remember. But one off performances don’t prove the case to start White. Over his career he has been decent, but no better than that. 60 minutes of McDermott at full throttle is a jucier prospect IMO.

Super Rugby AU Round 8 - Brumbies vs Waratahs @ Canberra Stadium - Saturday 22 August @ 7.15pm

With regards to both the offside & McDermott MST, I think you are choosing the see what you want to believe.

Agree. And if he shows it then you’ll get no complaints from me.

    Wallabies 2020

My post wasn’t specifically aimed at you or any other individual Adam. More at the thought process that is, IMO, overstating White’s performance as a test level half. Rightly or wrongly he has rarely been the first choice test half and has never been more than a solid test option.

    Wallabies 2020

I thought I would move the McDermott v White debate over here where it seems more relevant that the Brumbies v Tahs match thread. I get the calls to introduce McDermott to test rugby off the bench. What I don’t really get is the calls to use McDermott as a weapon against tired defence. I...

Agree. Maddocks could be a fantastic fullback for Australia. But he seems to have trouble stringing games of constant quality together. And when he is off he can be horrid.

Super Rugby Au Round 8 - Force vs Reds @ Cbus Stadium, 7:05pm Friday 21st August

Well - they will certainly have access to funding above what other areas have. I believe all of the QRU DOs were made redundant on Thursday.

    Wallabies 2020

Surely the obvious thing is not to get carried away with any single performance - be that the Tahs game or last night. The thing is that the guys who stood up last night and are being talked about as being Wallabies have been consistent good. Tupou, Salakaia-Loto, Wilson, Wright, McReight...

I’d assume you’d put Hegarty at 10 & JOC (James O'Connor) at 12 with either Petaia at 13 & CFS at 14 or Paisami at 13 & Petaia on the wing. Pretty damn good depth to be honest.
