    Wallabies 2020

I disagree with your first comment. Workhorse are very prolific at test level - but they need to have the physicality to match the role. It is essentially just he reverse of my comment above. Just because a guy is picked for his primary focus on shifting bodies at rucks doesn't mean he isn't...

Sorry - but my natural first reaction to that is ‘Jobs for the Boys’ rolls on.

    Reds 2021

I can see why the Reds would make the decision not to continue to deal with an agent who is clearly going to agitate against what the Reds are trying to achieve in terms of culture. Gordon might be all that and some but I what assume that what happened with Rodda, Lucas & Hockings is exactly...

Yeah - but my reference to ‘work horse’ isn’t meant to disparage the efforts of the guys who don’t fill that role. I 100% agree that the work rate from Nasirani and Hooper is absolutely first rate. But they are both ball runners - Nasirani in the middle and Hooper on the edge. It doesn’t mean...

Super Rugby AU Round 6 - Waratahs vs Reds @ SCG, Saturday 8 August 2020

Against the Brumbies was the first time the Reds attack started to resemble our pre-COVID attack. If we can build and keep our defence on point will be very hard to beat. Or just fix our discipline & lineout and win by a thousand. I have to say though that one of the really good things with...

    Wallabies 2020

The story I got (third hand - so feel free to dismiss as idle gossip) was that after a test Higgers felt his post game review didn’t align with the role he was assigned and the coaching staff unfairly criticised him. The next test, Higgers adjusted his game based on the feedback but was...

Somewhere in there you need a workhorse. The sort of bloke who is accurate at the breakdown and will run himself ragged doing the unglamorous stuff. The Scott Fardy type player.

    Wallabies 2020

Yeah - about half of those guys weren’t the sort of test locks that we needed to knock ourselves over to keep. And, based on what I keep reading about Skelton on here the best thing he did for his development was go to Europe. He may or may not ever feature for the Wallabies again but he...

    Reds 2021

Plus Stewart has had his stint of being shuffled around. He is playing his best footy this year and 12 suits his skill set. By all means he should continue to have to earn his spot and he may have to provide injury cover to other spots from time to time, but he never looked as good at 10 as he...

Super Rugby AU Round 5 Brumbies v Reds Saturday 7.15 GIO Stadium

Quite possibly. I was more meaning that once the lineout was over, defenders don’t spread so quickly because they are getting ready to hit the driving maul. This gives the Brumbies the jump on them and that crucial half a second which can be the difference between getting through a hole or not.

Super Rugby AU Round 5 Brumbies v Reds Saturday 7.15 GIO Stadium

The Brumbies also score some very well constructed set piece tries off their lineout. One of the reasons these are normally so effective is that teams know that their forwards have to defend the threat of the driving maul.

Why was he a lay down misere? I’m disappointed he left but a don’t see why he should have considered the job his. Clearly the other players didn’t. And Wright didn’t ‘just arrive’. You’re RE-writing history.

Rodda was better than Arnold at test level. But really depends who you’re pairing them with. Edit: assuming we only get one back at the moment, Arnold would be the one I’d chase and pair him with LSL (Lukhan Salakaia-Loto)

Ironically I did in the end anyway, without really thinking about it. Only as a reserve though - I though Sio had a nice bounce back to form.

Super Rugby AU Team of the Week

I’ll post a team - but with ether caveat that I missed most of the Force v Rebels game. Happy for my selections not to go to the table since i only watched one game - 1. Sio 2 Fainga’a 3. Tupou 4. Salakaia-Loto 5. Frost 6. Samu 7. Wright 8. Wilson 9. Powell 10. JOC (James O'Connor) 11. Petaia 12. Simone 13...

Super Rugby AU Team of the Week

My assumption was that it was essentially based on the team of the week concept but just with the provision that the players are a realistic change of being a Wallaby player in that position. So, for example Scott Malolua & Dane Zander would both be out, the first because he is ineligible and...

    Reds 2021

My underlying concern is that moving players around excessively doesn’t help them in the long run. And I just think Petaia is best at 13 and the number 1 priority here is to get the best from him. The rub of course is that you have to shift Paisami around to do that. I think he could play 12 -...
