    Rugby News from unexpected places

It's a selection camp for the College All-Americans. It's based around Rugby skills as much as athletic ability.

    NRC 2018

For it to kick on it needs a lot more time and resources invested in marketing and promoting the competition. The product is pretty damn good. People just need to know that it exists.

    NRC 2018

There's an Eagles game in Camden. Not 10 minutes down the road from my place. That's a no excuse game for me in terms of attending.

    Rugby News from unexpected places

The man with the connections in Canada has said that Vancouver won't be a go for next season unfortunately but can definitely see them on board for 2020.

    Rugby News from unexpected places

Nothing official. But there will be a gathering of 100 of the best College talent next month and all the MLR coaches will be there to help/scout.

    Where to for Super Rugby?

I've suggested it before but we should look to flip the schedule with the NRC kicking off the year and then moving into Super Rugby in a shortened format. Make everyone including Wallaby squad player participate as a means of competing for selection in Super Rugby.

    Rugby News from unexpected places

Yeah. There are two competing bids in Vancouver. A group working on getting something going in Sacramento. Boston, Atlanta, Kansas City. Chicago will come online eventually. Columbus is in the early stages of raising the necessary funding but they already have a ready made stadium seating 6,500...

    Rugby News from unexpected places

The group is based in San Clemente which is in South OC. It's been suggested that they are looking at playing at Championship Stadium https://soccerstadiumdigest.com/2017/07/new-orange-county-sc-stadium-to-debut-in-august/ which has a capacity of 5k.

    Rugby News from unexpected places

I don't think Austin will fold. I suspect that most of those rumours were coming from those within the Austin Rugby scene who have issues with the Elite's ownership group. Austin stabilised and appeared to find their feet in the competition as it hit the halfway point. We've heard nothing of...

    Rugby News from unexpected places

January 19th according the Seattle Seawolves newsletter. Yeah, it will be a tough start for them. But the MLR would have had to face these issues eventually and it's better than doing a Europe and playing right through the winter. Which isn't really an option in those locations. There will be...

2018 TV ratings and crowd numbers

The vast majority of the 700k+ viewed the game on FTA. Foxtel doesn't have anywhere near the penetration FTA does. Still, you would hope you'd get more of the numbers that did tune into the Fox Sports broadcast. I think a lot of it comes down to Super Rugby having practically no profile in the market as...

    Rugby News from unexpected places

Looks like Los Angeles will be announced as the 9th team to join MLR in the next week or so. The backer of the winning bid (there were four) was in Glendale over the weekend for the MLR semi-finals and has indicated via FB that a press alert is due this week with a full announcement likely early...

    Where to for Super Rugby?

Watching the Jags finally begin to deliver I still hope we see SA move north in regards to Super Rugby but stay in the RC while the Jags stay. From there we could either look to re-integrate the Force. Add either another Japanese or Argentine squad plus the mooted PI squad. That's 14. Could even add...

    Where to for Super Rugby?

I know the Wild Knights were seriously entertaining a run at Super Rugby before the whole contraction issue. I would honestly prefer the rules to be loosened for the likes of Japan with the focus on recruiting to ensure they are competitive first (they can even look to do this with the goal of qualifying...

    Where to for Super Rugby?

It would be SA's way of keeping a foot in SANZAAR for the sake of the RC. But I like to believe they can go north and remain in the RC. They already manage in the 6Ns window adding another amendment to that shouldn't be too hard. We could the resort to a largely Asia-Pacific Super Rugby. Our 4 or 5 plus...

    Where to for Super Rugby?

The two teams that need to be cut are definitely SA teams and they are definitely going north. Pro wants more SA teams and the Lions and Sharks have expressed interest in going.

    Rugby News from unexpected places

Apparently there will be some news about Canadian involvement coming out really soon.

    Rugby News from unexpected places

Argentina competes in the Americas Rugby Championship alongside the Eagles. Though they do so in the form of the Argentina XV. The Eagles have actually been the better team for a few years with Argentina managing to scrap two draws before losing this season. It should be noted that the Eagles...

    Australian Rugby / RA

It's been so long between drinks that when something does go right we aren't sure how to react. Waiting to see if things fall apart.
