The Fairfax/9 guys were discussing it on the inside line podcast and they thought Eddie would but the rest probably not.

It's 25k for the semis and another 150k for winning (total of 175k), but it's the whole squad who get it, not just the 23. Payout gets even larger if there are injury replacements throughout the tournament.

It's a bonus, in addition to contract salary and match payments. It'll cost RA around 6 million if we win (though they will be insured against it and that's before the obvious financial benifits of winning).

Campbell is injured and part of the coaching team (same as Wright). I believe Smith went in for shoulder surgery after the super season. Not sure about Asiata, Lynagh and Blyth, but I think they all missed the end of the club season so might be injured too.

Zander hasn't been re-signed. Was surprised to see him named in the initial challenger series squads, not so surprised not to see him in the teams. Very interested in seeing how Sankey and Minimbi go, as fringe super players they could absolutely snag a squad spot at lock with the Reds probably...

Yeah same John Bryant. I'm the same on George Francis, so much potential if he can get himself right for pro rugby. Might be getting pretty close to last chance though, given the number of pro programs he's popped up in the fringe of.

    Refereeing decisions

Yes, they have VAR (video assistant referee) for ruling on goals, penalties, clear red cards and ensuring the correct player is carded: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Video_assistant_referee

Think this might be a bit of a beat up at this stage, the report I saw said the Japanese Union was talking to him and he said he'd get back to them after the world cup. I really doubt Eddie would be looking to quit and take on Japan, he may however be keeping his options open if it all goes...

I don't think you can go back to a seeded model where an uneven number of teams make it out of the pools. You get away with it in smaller cups where there just aren't enough teams but in a larger one it just looks wrong.

I might need a bit of help understanding this graphic here, is this Placing-Pool - e.g 2A = 2nd in pool A? Either way I don't have too much of an issue with arranging the top 4 from 4 pools into a round of 16, I'm more wondering if it raises some of the same questions that 8/12 sides in super...

The larger pools also have the advantage of maximizing the exposure the smaller nations get at this level and against the spectrum of teams involved. The next question is do they do a round of 16 or is 2/3 teams progressing taking the piss?

None, all 7 home games at Suncorp this year.

Tela stepped in at 10 but was already with the squad, they called up Vilimoni Botitu to replace Muntz in the squad:

Yeah, saw that just after I posted. Looks like it's fair game which is fair enough, less controversial rulings if they don't have to make them.

I'm not sure the rules around dropping player who came into the world cup injured and are yet to play, but I think in that situation they'd look at Slipper as a fill in tighthead and hope to hell that he and Nonggorr could hold up the scrum until Pone/Tupou were fit again.

You do know the teams you responded to weren't the official ones, just someone's selection based on the announced squads? Beyond that there is a definite lean towards selecting guys in those squads who look like they have the potential to go pro, which can see some odd or unbalanced selections...
