    Where to for Super Rugby?

How much of the broadcast revenue we currently receive do you think comes from Super Rugby? When you look at the ratings for Aus derbies in Super Rugby they suggest that we'd be able to table a product at least as popular as the A-League was when they secured $68m a season. Potentially even more so.

    Where to for Super Rugby?

Really? Because 6 of the teams already exist. Arguably 7 if you wanted to count Samoa in GRR.

    Where to for Super Rugby?

You include Fiji and a 2nd PI squad and we'd have a nice little league going on. We could as you suggest structure the finances a little differently to make it work.

    Where to for Super Rugby?

The thing is. The NRC proves we could do it. And provide a product of interest. But we're so scared of reaching out as a code that we maintain this overly conservative nature that has essentially doomed us to being overly reliant on the national team.

    Where to for Super Rugby?

This would be in stead of their new league as opposed to running alongside it. You could also change the rules by allowing players to to be national team eligible regardless of which team they play in as long as it's for one of the teams in this competition. But you mandate that for the...

    Where to for Super Rugby?

The ratings support such a move. The question is whether admin are brave enough to pull the trigger. I don't like the language of 'dumping' SA or Arg. as I believe no matter what the RC should be guaranteed. But I think a shift northward for both SA and Arg would help long term in regards to...

    Rugby News from unexpected places

Yes. But that still doesn't take away from the fact they had to beat Hong Kong which run a professional 7s set up to get there.

    Rugby News from unexpected places

The name of the long mooted LA MLR franchise has been reported. The LA Loyals. Not the original LA Coast group but another that emerged after that one fell through. Interestingly enough an Australian backed group.

    Rugby News from unexpected places

South Korean Rugby has desperately needed a kick up the bum for quite a while now. So if they can leverage funding and visibility in order to get things moving that would be amazing. Considering just how small the game is in South Korea they do alright internationally. Particularly in Asia. But...

    Broadcast options for Australian Rugby

Yep. Iinet didn't and I imagine still don't back when they had the NBL. But they contracted out production which is what I expect Optus will do. Assuming they secure the rights.

    Rugby News from unexpected places

South Korea has qualified for Tokyo.

    Broadcast options for Australian Rugby

Could be a case of RA taking over broadcast much in the manner they did this season.

    Broadcast options for Australian Rugby

Right. So hopefully that will translate into higher revenues. Would also be interesting to see how Optus operate regarding advertising. Subs were never the only source of income for Foxtel and are the main drivers in FTA. But is it the Optus model. If it isn't then maybe RA could negotiate deals...

    Broadcast options for Australian Rugby

Umm.........doesn't the current deal equate to $58m a year? Unless they mean it's $30m a year above that. That's a serious decline in value. The only thing that could make things more palatable would be if there's a proper FTA component to accompany it.

    Broadcast options for Australian Rugby

That would be great. But what worries me is RA's lack foresight and innovation historically isn't great.

Haven't heard about SA's. What did that come to?

    Australian Rugby / RA

    A villian?

    Australian Rugby / RA

Really? Not a fan of Chrisjen Avasarala?

    Australian Rugby / RA

Surely this would be more appropriate for GRR.

    Australian Rugby / RA

Sorry, but that tends to be the line when there's an underlying let's call it 'tone' to someone's thinking. That read like yet another of the 'back to the futurists' that seem to populate the game. We and importantly they need to recognise that those days are gone and for the good of the game we...
