Bledisloe #1 New Zealand vs Australia, August 7 2021

Nice report BR. Agree with most of it. A couple of observations from my part - - Aaron Smith may not have been at his best but he had a couple of really important involvements in the period when the lead blew out. And, mostly, they just came down doing his core role really, really well. - I...

That 10 minutes hurt us though. Having said that, it wasn’t specifically Valetini’s fault. I am happy with how he is going and won’t be disappointed if he is picked again next test. Even leaving the lineout aside I thought Swinton was really good against the French and, if he wasn’t injured...

Swinton is a good lineout operator. I think Valetini is going okay IMO - but if Swinton was available for this test suspect he would have started at 6 and I think he is likely to next game with Valetini back on the bench. I don’t think Nasirani is any better than Wilson at the lineout.

Regrettable is a better description than Brave and history says the ABs could well go up 4 levels next week. It was an opportunity to take them down but this team let too many chances slip. Our line out yips, kicking yips (both for line & goal) and a couple of decisions to kick and cut out when...

Happy to agree to disagree. But I don’t think any of us are either claiming to be Saints or suggesting this is a huge issue. I agree it’s a minor breach. Looking forward to the game. Agree we’ll miss Koroibete. It’s near impossible to be confident going into a game v the ABs. But I am keen to...

I can’t think of any less inspirational style of leadership than the style that equivocates over standards and uses ‘discretion’ to decide how different individuals should be treated on black and white standards. As for some of the suggestions others have made about dealing with it behind...

Of course not. We all realise that. The bit I don’t understand is how you somehow don’t - despite being an otherwise knowledgeable and rational poster. That’s the bit I’m confused about.

    Clearly Rennie’s fault

I think this would be just as over the top. Most young guys also aren’t great at having the dedication and commitment to be a pro athlete. They messed up and their getting punished - but this is a pretty low level offence in the whole scheme of things. I don’t see why any more needs to be...

I’m surprised at both your surprise RR and your outrage. This is standard fare for professional teams. Even when they have timeout, it is controlled. If you go outside that you get punished. That punishment normally involves being stood down. It would almost be a non-event except Koroibete is...

???? Am I missing something in your post? You don’t expect Rennie & the coaching group to be working for improvement in those areas?

Pfft … we only need 14 on the field to win.

I don’t mind them either, although we did lack penetration and the French centres definitely had a lot more impact in the first two games than ours did. But I think they will improve with time as will Lolesio. As will, hopefully, our kicking game, our breakdown effectiveness, our support play...

Yeah, but to Rodha’s point is our third string prop(s) a bigger issue than our starting centres?

Maybe. Wright wasn’t great against France, but I thought he was very good last year. With Daugunu & Vunivalu out our wing options are a bit light. Maybe they’ll prefer Hodge or possibly a Kellaway. As a collective I think sometimes our view on players can be very fickle. 6 weeks ago Valetini...
