    Tahs v Bulls, round 10 2014

I was visiting Sydney and got a ticket to the Rebels game. I got the train from Redfern to Central and walked up to the G&GR pub. When I got on at Redfern I showed my game ticket to the guy on the gate and he let me straight through. Ditto on the return. Don't tell me I lucked a freebie? That...

Rebels vs Force, Round 10, 2014

About 12-18 months ago there was a bit of an epidemic of this and the refs suddenly decided this was dangerous play and penalised the jumper. That stopped it dead in its tracks. Looks like the refs will need to have another chat with each other and reset the protocol.

    Fantasy Super Rugby 2014

I reckon you are better off with Pots and Crotty than Ma'a. I would be surprised to see him in black on his form this year. Whiteley has had two bad games in a row. Reckon he's going off the boil.

    NZ Match Reports

I wasn't saying the two tries were rejected incorrectly, just that they were marginal calls. I thought the penalty try call was wrong but I'll rewatch it later.

    Tahs v Bulls, round 10 2014

Two things strike me as strange: As best I can tell there's always free public transport to the ground included with the ticket fee, so this is not anything special. I have used the bus from Central often and never been badly delayed doing so, coming to the ground or leaving. So why not drive...

    NZ Match Reports

Karma is not with the Canes this weekend. Two tries rejected through very marginal decisions and then the Blues get a penalty try from what I thought was bad ball control by the Blues 8.

    Fantasy Super Rugby 2014

297 was a good score last week. With a number of top players scoring single digits it was a low scoring week.

    Tahs v Bulls, round 10 2014

The Bulls totally dominated the Clan scrum last week, very surprising because I rated the Clan scrum before that and didn't rate the Bulls scrum. I will be very happy if the Waratahs scrum breaks even this week. That probably means Kepu has to play 80, Ryan has been an absolute penalty magnet...

    Worst Commentator Pole Action

That said I clearly remember Kearns doing some commentary with the NZ Fox team several years ago for a non-Tahs match. It was some sort of cross-cultural exchange experience. Kearns was bright, composed, erudite and thoroughly enjoyable, so much so that I recall it now, several years later...

Rebels vs Force, Round 10, 2014

The Force will have to adapt their game this week. Firstly that game was tremendously tiring. There will be some very sore Western Force players even today, albeit pretty happy ones. I would expect some of them to be a bit flat still by the weekend. Secondly, they will be playing a very...

    The Pulverisation of Australian Rugby

I bloody hope so, that was a major disgrace to the game. You'd expect that in mungo land, we are supposed to be better than that.

    Super Rugby Television Ratings 2014

At least their away games in Australasia aren't at 3:00 in the morning. Mornings are way better for watching rugby than pre-dawn.

    Super Rugby Television Ratings 2014

Its a bit depressing that the two local derbies couldn't rate over 100K. Force- Tahs was a cracking game and a good advertisement for the code. Reds Brumbies was a game of two halves, but still good to watch, plus there was plenty of controversy to boot. Super Rugby this year has been good...

    The Pulverisation of Australian Rugby

Richard Aedy on Sunday profile interviewed Bill Pulver last Friday and I caught it by accident on SA radio tonight. Its a 24 minute interview and covers personal issues (Bills daughter was the victim in the collar bomb case), the selection of Ewen McKenzie as coach, rugby's financial problems...

    Fantasy Super Rugby 2014

Pretty low scoring week on Fox. I am in the top 700 for the week with Izzy as captain, so I'll pick up about 40 points more at least. Last time I got in the top 700 for a round was two years ago. Some of the form players like Whiteley, King, Alberts and Cowan had really poor weeks. I'll be...

    Force v Tahs, round 9 2014

This is a tough close game. If the Tahs maintain their robust attack they must turn the half breaks into tries soon. But I'm not sure if they can maintain this level of intensity for another 40. Not impressed with lance at 15, he's been caught in possession a couple of times. The ball needs...

    Chiefs v Rebels Rd 9 2014

That game was there for the taking and they dropped it. Please no more talk of Higgers as Wallaby captain. Why would you take a tap and not a scrum against six. When you take a scrum five out all the opposing teams flankers have to stay on to stop the pushover. So its basically one on one in...

    Reds vs Brumbies - Rd9 2014

But binning Moore and letting Quirk off also sets a shitty precedent.

    Force v Tahs, round 9 2014

Drew is right. If it had been Bledisloe 1 Folau would have played. Its not even questionable. This is a measure of just how much Izzy means to the Wallabies, that they would go against the agreed protocols and still put him out for Saturday even though he met the prescribed criteria. The...

    Reds vs Brumbies - Rd9 2014

The first ref to send off both the holder/niggler and the retaliator will earn my undying respect. He'll probably get shit-canned but he will have struck the first decent blow to stop this negative play becoming standard procedure with all teams.
