Super Rugby Expansion in Australia. Success or failure?

Interesting point about it opening up more spaces for young players. I look at it this way, a guy like mortlock should be going to the rebels because he is well and truly past it, yet still has decent promotional value and is a great ambassador the game. As you say initial success is important...

JON in the firing line on Junior rego's

I think age for weight should end at U12's, and should be conducted in such a way that you dont end up with kids playing with anyone more than 2 years older than them. The difference in emotional development would too be to frustrating for the older kids, and intensity of training maybe a bit...

Super Rugby Expansion in Australia. Success or failure?

I think something needs to be done to stop the flow of Top class players (IE Beale, Sharpe....Giteau) away from their home states. Maybe some form of salary cap bonus is required for players you develop (I think they already have this in league). I also understand the reason for them moving may...

JOC (James O'Connor) to Rebels as well?

From what I've read it seems the salary cap is more of just a guidline rather than a hard and fast rule. I think you will see most teams might be a couple of hundred over for a few years as they readjust payments.

JOC (James O'Connor) to Rebels as well?

Cipriani signed a 2 year contract. He is here until the end of next season, and after how he played tonight I don't think any European club rates him highly enough to buy out his contract....

JON in the firing line on Junior rego's

Im just going to chime in quickly and say what i said in a thread a few months ago. Junior Club rugby should have some sort of weight for age grading system, until high school starts, at which point they should stop club rugby and let kids play for their school. I think that how they do it in...

Super Rugby Expansion in Australia. Success or failure?

I dont think that is a fair assessment. ACT had some great success and has produced a solid stream of wallabies since its inception. WARU has only really been at it for a few years, add to that the fact that their rugby culture was no where near what ACT's was back in 1996, I think its fair to...

Super Rugby Expansion in Australia. Success or failure?

I agree to an extent, but I dont think you can say a province has been properly successful until they win using mostly players they developed. The Brumbies have been successful in the past, and have done so with a mix of local stars, and unwanted expats from QLD and NSW. In the short to medium...

    Won the super 10, twice.

    Rebels 2012

Macqueen is obviously building a team to win the comp sometime over the next couple of seasons. The big question now is who is next, I think a big name forward signing is on the cards. My money is on one of the brumbies backrowers making the switch, especially with delve and lipman moving on...

JOC (James O'Connor) to Rebels as well?

Good call. I hope some of their newfound money go's into serious rugby development in victoria.

    Waratahs 2012

Oh sorry mate I thought you were suggesting the reds buy him. The tahs can do what they like, and in the absence of a consistent 5/8 he would be a good acquisition I suppose. But I doubt they can get anywhere close to the money he's on at toulon, and i'm sure there is more than one tahs fan who...

    Western Force 2012

ABC is reporting O'Connor has signed with the Rebels. To be announced on Monday. Force are going to need to prop up their backline stocks for next season. It will be interesting to see if Queensland can hold onto Ben Tapuai, Aiden Toua, Dom Shipperly and Kimami Sitauti. Hopefully the lure of...

    Waratahs 2012

Well not really. Reds have quite a few good players in the system at the moment. They dont really need to be wasting money on players they don't need. They should instead be stocking up their ranks from the bottom up. There are some very good young guns playing rugby who I have no doubt will be...

    National Club Competition

In terms of quality it wont be the same, but cost will be less. And although you make a cynical point about club rugby, I actually think the big clubs would be more than up for a pissing contest of sorts like the one I suggested. Especially if it gets on TV as it means they attract more...

Gold Coast wins rights to host IRB 7's from 2012

Playing it during schoolies is a bit stupid. If they want to tie it in with something they could play it the week after the indy, or during the Bond Uni O-Week.

    National Club Competition

I dont think you can just manufacture teams and expect people to support them. HEC style comp run over the 2 month break with 3 or 4 seeded pools of 4 is how I would go about it. Some of the games could be curtain raisers for the home test matches during the 4 Nations. As sully said, start...

    Waratahs 2012

They wouldn't bother with wilko when they've got some very special talent in the GPS comp this year. A number 8 and a gun outside back.

    National Club Competition

2 month international break during next years super rugby is a decent time frame I think. Maybe some HEC style comp, best of the best from each state union. I think the ARU needs to focus development on the state club comps a bit more before they start looking at stuff like this. Making sure...

    Super Rugby Competition Format 2012

Will each team play each other next year or are they persisting with the system they have at the moment?
