Don't know if this has been discussed/mentioned here before:

The Super Rugby schedule will get a massive overhaul in 2012.

The season will include a two-month gap in June and July for international Tests to be played.

The regular season is expected to then finish in August with finals to be played through September.

It seems to make a lot more sense...and on par with the format up in the NH...

Will each team play each other next year or are they persisting with the system they have at the moment?

sounds great! means people will be watching rugby almost all year around...instead of switching to league when the tri-nations are over! and we will hopefully see squads being rotated a bit more as there is a longer season, which looking at the reds this year seems to be really beneficial for building depth.

although, do people think this will have a negative affect on 'wallabies'...not having much of a rest?

just out of interest, when is the next chance that a new super team can be brought in? just thinking of next year as the tri nations are possibly becoming 4 nations with argentina, and wandering if they are thinking of bringing a team for super rugby.

I understood that the South Africans insisted that the Super season not affect the second half of the Currie Cup. That understanding directly conflicts with the SMH article. Does anyone have more background?

This was always going to be the case, it shouldn't come as a shock to anyone, the concept was released around the same time the new SANZAR deal was signed, the finer details were missing because dates still needed to be sorted.
