    Shute Shield 2017

Yeah and no. Pulver came to clubs asking them to invest money most if them didn't have into NRC for the good of the sport. Once they committed funds to it,he withdrew funding to the clubs for around the same level. So,in one off season he changed the status quo from SS receiving a grant, to...

    NRC onwards and upwards

like it or lump it,the SS clubs are the backbone of the sport. That's the identity and the structures that are currently in place. You can re align the pathway for 14's and below, but you can't really change things overnight in higher age groups/opens without substantial collateral damage...

Pulver has definitely gone the rubber glove sans lube on SS clubs. But without being privy to discussions, it reeks of self sabotage to me. It's difficult to get the public behind decisions that look like they have been made on basis of retribution for perceived wrongs.

    NRC onwards and upwards

if I was Bill P, I'd tell the clubs that if you do that. Then I will fund the NRC,make it two rounds, and will sign players for significantly more than they receive playing SS. It actually wouldn't cost that much in the scheme of things. If players earn more money & were being given the...

Most people choose the honour first, and then,as their value increases and they have enough 'trip shirts' they take the money. Usually.

^^^^^^^ If true,it's difficult to support that decision. It will be interesting to hear the argument in support of such a provocative gesture.

Declining participation and ARU plans for the future

Got to say, it's easy to take pot hots at BP. But its horrifying to think where would we be,had he not replaced JON when he did.

Assuming, zero work on next years draw commenced prior to this years GF,and pretending there was zero IP retained on what is required to produce a draw. What other duties would a competition manager have, that would preclude him from completing a draw in the 18 weeks that have passed since this...

    Waratahs 2017

If he needs a lesson in working hard, put him on a building site as a brickies labourer. He's been a pro footballer since he left School. Time for him to deliver on his promise. If he needs a season or two in NH to improve his game, fine. But instead of,not in addition to playing in Oz.

I can't think of anyone that improves their form by playing in the off season.

I agree totally. If they didn't list pools from 1-4, I'd struggle to seed each pool correctly. 3 and 4 in your pool is far from a human bye as it was, only a few years ago. Having said that,I think Fiji drew a slightly easier pool this week, with the rest pretty even.

England v Australia, Saturday 3 December

Both against the AB's,both with the underperforming Foley playing out of position outside him. There were plenty of opportunities to give him 10 or more minutes this year (because sadly, the game was out of reach already). It had to be a deliberate decision not to open that Pandora's box.

I'm not sure it's so much Foley v QC (Quade Cooper), as much as its wtf has to happen for Foleys position to be under threat. Not even his mum would say he's been in good form in 2016. It's not just that he's an automatic pick. It's the fact that the coach deliberately gives the alternative no chance to see if...
