Yeah of course Pulver would have bailed them out. if only Papworth hadn't objected to Pulvers statement, that giving SS clubs money, would be pissing it up against the wall..... Of course that ignores the fact, that they are not yet in a position that would require them to be bailed out.... But...

Huh? You want the SS to expand to include 20's teams ? that is just ridiculous on so many levels......

Probably, it's because the FTA broadcaster would object to it. Get too clever and that's all you end up with,

    Waratahs v Highlanders trial - Thursday 16 February 2017

I'm not that keen on this structure, there are wingers in this comp, you simply can't allow to get the ball on the run, with a couple of metres of space. Having said that,in the first half if they decided not to beat us on the edge, they strolled through the middle. There is a lot of work to be...

Totally agree. However,if the options are Kellaway or Jones, at least you know Taqele won't die wondering. IMO the two youngsters are a long way from being keen to involve themselves defensively. What to do? Who'd be a coach!

    Waratahs 2017

^^^^Thats just a handful that hung around Sydney. There are countless players that went overseas to play pro Rugby. I'm pretty sure @Dave Beat could just about name a side from ex Marlins players currently plying their trade o/s.

    Shute Shield 2017

did you see any of the recent Darwin tournament? A whole team of pro f/time players were repeatedly humbled by amateur teams that were thrown together for the weekend. Imagine what the amateurs would do to the pros, with the same preparation! It's mind boggling how inept the current 'system' is.

Yes, that's certainly been the case, but its definitely improving year on year.

I agree totally, I think too many are anointed as the next big thing, for being selected in Schoolboy rep teams, not excelling in them. Generally, I would take a proven performer against adults before a Schoolboy rockstar. But I think in this instance,Wilkins has a higher ceiling. But I have...

^^^^^ Wilkins has a superior schoolboy pedigree and weighs more.

    Brumbies 2017

I reckon the ARU could find the cash to prop up the Brumbies for a year or two, until they get their mojo back. Sacking them & starting a western Sydney franchise will undoubtedly require more funds, even in the best case scenario. Worst case could literally send the ARU broke. Pulver seems to...

^^^i understand that minimum contracts are about 1/2 the stated average. Whilst I have been critical of BP over many issues, I doubt he would brazenly lie about the 7's wages bill.

The coach has sufficient budget so that the 20 man squad earns an average of $92k They travel the world business class & stay in 5 star hotels. thats good enough to attract talent. The fact that their b squad can't beat club teams, demonstrates the coach has just assembled the wrong players...

We are not being beaten by a lack of athleticism. We are being beaten by a lack of brains. lets just say the 3 forwards and the winger should primarily be athletes. That means you should have 3 players with an idea of putting support players into space. Out of a squad of 20 there should be 9...

You are nominating 15's pathways as evidence of a good talent identification process for 7's. I know I've mentioned it before, but the national dev team with 6 or 7 contracted players were humbled in Darwin recently. They are quite simply picking the wrong guys.

Not a lot has to change to improve things dramatically. Recruitment has been poor, emphasis has been on cardio & top end speed, with the result that we have no one with the ability to put people into space. Henry is a great example of everything that's wrong with the current setup. Obviously...

Who is this welfare officer from the ARU? There would be 30 odd players who are culled from our super franchises each year. Just these 2 qualified for a bone from ARU? The reality is, anyone with a pushy manager gets a trial down there, if Friend thinks they are good enough, they get a contract...

Now you're just being silly. The ARU don't have surplus funds to warehouse players in the 7's set up because they aren't worthy of a 15's contract on their merits. Kingston is 25 yo journeyman, who can't crack it for a spot in the current 7's match day squad. McCutcheon 29 who subsequently...
