Which Clubs are the Class of 2013 going to?

Y Usual tragedy with so many Gordon juniors ending up at Wicks. The novelty of driving to Coogee in peak hour 2x weekly must get thin.

    CAS Rugby 2014

Rip, for the 16s I'm quoting from Knox match report saying they won 16as 26-19. If they have that arse about, then humble apologies. As for other results you quote, I'm not spruiking some general Knox over Joeys renaisassance, merely positing that Knox has a pretty fair 14A -16A cohort, which...

    CAS Rugby 2014

Meanwhile in the nursery, Knox 14As won 2 tries to nil v 2013 13A GPS winners New, following on from a 7 tries to 2 win over Joeys last week. Early days I know and aths missing from GPS teams, but Yr 9s on cadet camp missing from Knox. With 16As also winning against Joeys last week and 15As...

I hope TSC choose their Saffer schools assiduously. The Barker tour ended up being a try fest against less than impressive opposition. Not all saffers are Du Plessis!

C'mon Newbie - Joey's "Hot tub and Moët"? You'd be hard pressed getting a snag and a beer - all the money goes into subsidising the boarding. The ground may be good to play on, but take a look at the pre war seating and grandstand. Scot's perhaps, but no Moët at Joeys.

Does anyone know the result of the 15s Knox v Marist match? Last year was apparently a cracker and the first time the 14s had been beaten since the start of year 7.

Continued decline in Sydney Junior Rugby

Bang on QH. Even amongst Gordon reps, the vast majority of last years 13 yr olds did not try out for JGC - the gap with growing boys is usually too large. There are a number of PI boys from last years 13s who made the JGC squad, but they would not look out of place, size wise, in the u17s...

    CAS Rugby 2014

I It's true that there are circa 300 boys in yr 7 and not far off that in year 8. However, tragically, there are only 6 or so rugby teams in each year. A number of the GPS schools would field that number of teams with half the year size. Not sure how this measures up with say Barker which...

I've I've always been a fan of the direct nature of this forum and this topic in particular. Now I feel las sharp as a nerf ball at a knife fight. Prov, what exactly are you saying? This is the thread for comments that can't be aired elsewhere - surely after 200+ pages we don't need another...

Continued decline in Sydney Junior Rugby

I like al I think there is a lot of merit in this FC, but it would still seem to require school cooperation which, at least amongst the GPS/CAS set, is rarely forthcoming. If SS clubs are solely responsible for 17s (or even 15s up as posited by QH) then the pathway is equally clear for boys...

Thanks GO for the info and picking up my misrep of the team.

Continued decline in Sydney Junior Rugby

The 2012/3 case of a high profile Aust schoolboys player, ex-Kings moving to Barker in Year 12 was instructive. No, he wasn't kicked out for playing Club when told by the school not to, but life was made very difficult and he chose to relocate rather than live with it for year 12.

Ditto. And a very good o/c centre. Alas a sunny day does not a summer make

Continued decline in Sydney Junior Rugby

I agree with your last sentence, but question the no of alternative players in local state schools. I'd hazard a guess that there is an even higher proportion of Lindfield boys in private schools now than in 2000. Not to say it can't be done, but we have gone from 4 to 3 to 2 and I fear 1 team...

Continued decline in Sydney Junior Rugby

I think you're being a bit tough on some of the clubs QH - I don't think it's laziness. Our club on the North side has always had about 80+% of boys go to private schools from yr 7, reflecting the demographic average. Inevitably a no drop out in yrs 7,8 and 9, there are not a lot of eligible...

ARU Junior Gold Cup - National Junior Championships

Bang on IS. I'm not for a moment suggesting that study and hard training are incompatible. But a number of boys are not doing the study in favour of pursuing rugby glory and a number of schools are happy to aid and abet this so long as the 1sts are winning.
