Super Rugby Rd 1: Waratahs vs Brumbies Friday, 24th February

In my opinion RR, he is missing either the physicality of Valetini to bend or break the line, or the stepping of Hooper to create a gap. He will make a tonne of carries in the midfield during a match but make a total of metres only in ground gained. I like his support play and he has plenty of...

Australian Super Rugby Team of the Week 2023

I am happy to stfu about others selections if that's the agreed way to go, but here's an idea out of left field that could be worthwhile in getting rid of bias, intended or otherwise. Why not have a rule where fans of teams cannot include players from that team? May not be possible if all...

    Wallabies 2023

Yeah, but in a roundabout way. The crucial time was the Super League split here. It coincided with my move to Canberra, and the Brumbies just stood out as an unmissable occasion during those first couple of years. Have been a Brumbies member for most of the time since 1997. League no longer...

I think one of Bernie's innovations has been to discard the captain's run. Reckons he gets more out of another scheduled training run with the coaches.

    SR2023 R2 - Waratahs vs Drua - Saturday 4 March @ 7.35pm

Maona Pacifica were all over the Drua in the forwards in the first 40 - 60 minutes. That's where the Tahs can have the edge if they pick the right players. Holloway, Lambert, Gleeson and Harris could have a field day running the ball in close, but starting two No 7s won't help the cause.

Game's in Melbourne isn't it? Home ground won't be an issue.

Wilson has a tremendous workrate but his carries even at Super Rugby level are overrated imo.

Australian Super Rugby Team of the Week 2023

I think it is right that only those who watched every game should post. I didn't see the Force/Rebels game so won't post a team. But from the games I did see I don't understand Jordan Petaia being picked over Tom Wright who was one of the most effective players in the Tahs/Brumbies game. So much...

Valetini definitely, but I'd also rate Holloway better than Neville in the second row.

    Wallabies 2023

I wouldn't be the only one, but I did pick it just after the Tahs/Brumbies match. Brett was sitting in the box with Eddie at the game. Actually, a favourite player of mine when he was fullback at the Magpies and Wests Tigers. At the time I was a League fan and followed the Western Suburbs side...

Super Rugby Rd 1: Waratahs vs Brumbies Friday, 24th February

I agree. but at the Brumbies, Valetini still plays the classic 8 role hitting the ball up off set play while he had to defend the blind side off scrums (because that was where he was positioned). But he didn't do that as effectively as Pete Samu does usually, but of course Pete was somewhere...

Super Rugby Rd 1: Waratahs vs Brumbies Friday, 24th February

I don't think Samu is a good comparison, or maybe he is the best? Valetini is our world class No 8, but for some unknown (to me) reason, he plays 6 at the Brumbies. It does matter. Rob was slow to cover a couple of blind side attacks which as a 6 he should have been there in position. Pete has...

Super Rugby Rd 1: Waratahs vs Brumbies Friday, 24th February

How old is Schoupp? He has, what, 4 - 5 years Shute Shield, and is a bit undersized for a LHP at 1.8m and 110kg. I reckon in terms of experience, Holz (23yo, 1,89m and 128kg) probably has more and at a higher level. Given it was his first game at this level, and apparently had been overlokked...

Super Rugby Rd 1: Waratahs vs Brumbies Friday, 24th February

Out of this game, I reckon Eddie would have made note of the following players (that's not to say they would all be selected in the Wallabies right now, but they should be in the picture for the squad) : Fullback - Tom Wright; Wing - Jorgenson and Toole; Centre - Ikitau and Foketi; No 10 -...

    Waratahs 2023

Qwerty, an outsider's view, but I reckon any team would be licking their lips in anticipation coming up against the Tahs with that front row. Scrums will likely be backpedaling all game. I can't agree either with any suggestion Mark N (Nawaqanitawase) might be dropped. He had a poor night but his development...

Super Rugby Rd 1: Waratahs vs Brumbies Friday, 24th February

I disagree with this judgement and I think you might be letting your admiration of NZ teams get the better of you. The Crusaders were well off the pace against the Chiefs and a significant drop in quality play from last year, as we might expect early in the season. But they missed something like...

Just a word of appreciation for Nic Berry too. Best game I've seen from him.

Super Rugby Rd 1: Waratahs vs Brumbies Friday, 24th February

Looked like he'd be more comfortable at 15. Am I right in thinking Noah played a lot closer to the gain line than he did last year, when he came on? To be comprehensive, comment on Jack D's game should also note his defence which was first class. Two or three really big hits put the Tahs on the...
