I think a careful review of the Eddy Jones World Cup blueprint for Japan v SA would be a very worthwhile investment of time for the CAS coaches. Speed and mobility, high work rate, kick for territory but keep the ball in and with a good chase, enthusiasm at the breakdown. That's how the team...

    CAS U16s 2016

Agreed. You don't want to be playing GPS 5m out from your own goal line. And there are some speedsters in the team. If the kickers can catch the opposing back three napping, anything might happen.

No issue with their being some very good players in rugby who have a league background. But the mere fact of a league background doesn't = highest quality rugby player which often seems to be the default sentiment re school boy players. And they are frequently not dominant. A number of the HM...

^^^I'd have Reimer at 8 and Trobec on bench as he would be a great impact player who can slot in at lock, 6 or 8. Anyway, I've said enough on the subject. My preference for one player does not mean that the boys selected didn't fight hard to win their places and each deserves to be there...

    CAS U16s 2016

This is precisely the point. Reimer has been playing and winning against these and the other GPS boys for years. Titmuss, Bell and many of the other likely GPS boys played club and rep rugby (Norths) for years. Reimer has been a key member of the Gordon rep side which knocked off Nths at last...

I doubt selection is based solely on trial form. I've no idea who the selectors are but presumably they have some involvement with CAS rugby on an ongoing basis and would be familiar with many of the players. They wouldn't be human not to be at least partly guided by what they see week in and...

So a boy needs not only to have played league to be a top rugby player, but even to recognise one? The poor lads who just focus on rugby should probably pack it in now then and leave it to your omniscient dual coders. Wouldn't want to be laughed at after all.

It may be hard, but Reimer has achieved it if the weekly match reports on Barker 1s are to be believed. He is regularly named as one of their best. He has also slugged it out with the best players in the GPS and ISA at the highest levels of rep rugby for the past 6 years.

There are some GPS boys jumping with delight that Luke Reimer has been left out of this team. Close to best NSW u15s forward last year and has been going gangbusters in 1sts. The only logical explanation is they want him for Opens CAS 2s. A damn shame as this team is a lot weaker without his...

The old fashioned way - having watched a number of these boys a lot in previous years and having seen how they are playing this season. League training is great. For League. It's a much narrower set of skills. if you doubt this ask yourself how many rugby backs have made transition to league...

Sth also attached. @CK I'm not being critical of the process as it makes sense for the selectors to give maximum opportunity to players they don't know as well. The 'names' they are usually well aware of and its in the unknown you can find the odd diamond

From what I hear Souths had the bigger forwards but Norths dominated the scrums. Anyone able to comment on how GLastras (C) went in Sths front row? Also heard that the 'names' didn't get a huge amount of game time?

I meant that if the team had been selected in Sept last year I would have had Dalton but if injured as here, McCormack would have got the tick. Current form means this GPS season. As your post above makes clear, on paper the New 16s should be red hot. They are not and this is down to current...
