    the way forward for refereeing?

According to law the TMO can only rule on acts in goal. So the TMO was technically not allowed to make a judgment on the forward pass. I think one of two things should happen. 1. The TMO should still only be allowed to look at a play based on the ref's request but in the act of scoring they...

RWC Pool Match: Wallabies vs Ireland (Supporter meetup)

I vote for Speights Ale House or The Kingslander. Turns out the mate who's house I am staying at is a 25 min walk to Eden Park, so I vote for near the stadium :P

RWC Pool Match: Wallabies vs Ireland (Supporter meetup)

I splurged and got some Category A seats, I really wanted to see this game! Is the plan to do a pre or post game meet up? Something near Eden Park makes sense.

    Worldcup Meetup

This is a novel concept please explain further. So you are saying I won't have to bring a goat to barter with? I guess what I meant to ask was - Is there a GAGR specific supporters scarf I can buy? I vaguely remember one being mentioned, or am I dreaming? If not I imagine any sports shop will...

    Worldcup Meetup

I'll actually be in Sydney Sept 4-Sept8 as well. How can I get a GAGR/Wallabies supporters scarf?

    Worldcup Meetup

So I am going to the Aus vs Italy game, Aus vs Ireland game, and all the All Blacks games. Any other GAGR members going to be around? Shall we meet up for some pre or post game beers? Edit- I'll be based out of Auckland for the pool games.

Analyzing the way the game is refereed

I would have agreed with you before I took up reffing. But once I grabbed the whistle and reffed a few games I realized that if I enforced every law to the letter, there would be no such thing as a ruck or a maul because EVERY breakdown would result in a penalty or advantage. The game would...

Analyzing the way the game is refereed

I took up referring this year because I wanted to understand the game better, and I quickly learned that being a ref is not easy. In response to the idea of enforcing every law and infringement I offer this: One thing that many fans may not be aware of is that as refs we are taught the concept...

    Wallabies world cup squad selection

Assuming everyone was fit I think this is the team we should go with. I put subs in brackets. Props - Alexander, Robinson (Kepu) Hooker - Moore (TPN) - This is a tough decision as I would rate both of them equally. TPN is a vicious tackler, but Moore gains some serious yards with ball in hand...

    James O'Connor #12, Rob Horne #13?

At the moment if Genia and Cooper are 9,10 then A Fianga'a should be the 12. Fianga'a runs hard and straight like McCabe, is a wall in defence, but he seems to gel better with Cooper. I think once a few players get healthy the backline should look like this: 9 - Genia 10- Cooper 11- Iaone 12...

IRB Law amendments post RWC 2011

As a former player, avid fan and first year ref, I THOUGHT I knew the laws quite well, but this one confused me the most. It is MUCH too complicated. The other thing that many fans may not be aware of is that as refs we are taught the concept of materiality. Basically, materiality means...

    G&GR Fantasy Super Rugby 2011

I'm sure everyone ended up this way, but I have all but three of my players on the dream team for this round! Great season, I came in 64th place!

    G&GR Fantasy Super Rugby 2011

I messed up big time! For some reason I thought I had to pick a team for the entire playoffs and I chose 5 Reds players for this week! I'll get nothing out of them this week.

    G&GR Fantasy Super Rugby 2011

James O'Connor to League in 2013? What the..

I live in Canada, where we don't have two sports so similar that our pro athlete's can switch back and forth. But I have to say, the Australian media is OBSESSED with union players and the slight chance they might move over to league. It's as if someone whispers at the bus stop or drunk in the...

    G&GR Fantasy Super Rugby 2011

What I thought would be a disaster of a round turned out pretty well. 407 points and moved up 18 spots to 65 in the league. If I crack 50 I'll be more than happy.

    G&GR Fantasy Super Rugby 2011

Despite having two of my starting players not getting any gametime (Poki and Whiteley) and getting zero points from them, I still managed 337 points from the round and jumped 23 spots! Injuries and resting of players is really taking its toll on my team selection from week to week.
