Ted think losses are Match Fixing

Is this kind of stuff really necessary? Just gotta get that gratuitous jab in there don't you? Just can't help yourself? And I think the result in 1991 is implied, obviously.

    No more SBW in black

Minor Hijack Just out of curiosity; how do you post a link to an article like that with just the one word link instead of the web page? I have tried to do that for a while and I can't see any help pages on it.

    Cooper going into the ring?

So long as he has a good shave and lets his hair grow a bit, there is definite potential for him in boxing.

    Western Force 2013

I'm not disputing for a moment that McQueen was an excellent coach, nor that the Auckland team of that era was fantastic. I would caution that comparing a provincial team from NZ at that era to the NSW is a bit like comparing apples and oranges. There were 10 first division NPC teams in NZ the...

Good call. At some point you just have to walk away (even it you can't stop shaking your head).

    Western Force 2013

OK but remember in those days it was just Auckland, not the Blues, which is made up of 3 first division provincial teams. I guess that is a subtle distinction here, but there is a big difference between beating the Blues and beating Auckland.

Wait, when did the McQueen coached Waratahs beat the Auckland Blues???? Something is wrong here methinks.

Ted think losses are Match Fixing

Documentaries are not a particularly reliable source because they are almost always written and presented with an agenda. It's pretty easy for a film maker to take a snippet from an interview here and there to make it seem like there is some great story to be told, when actually there is not...

Ted think losses are Match Fixing

That is pretty much exactly what he has said in his book. He thought that one of the possibilities for the poor refereeing was match-fixing, but that nothing else came out of it, and he was a little surprised there was no investigative body within the IRB to look at corrupt practices ala the...

Ted think losses are Match Fixing

Exactly. The marketing agency for the publisher knows exactly what they are doing to try to sell books. It's the same thing that has gone on for years with books; release a tiny tidbit that sounds a bit controversial but when you read it in its entirety its a bit of a non-event. It's not a...

Ted think losses are Match Fixing

Nah, its just a media beat up to try to sell more books. The article says: Well so what? I briefly considered it too, but then I didn't.

2012 S15 All things Referee thread

On Kaplan's odd question, I have a theory. I think that Kaplan had decided in his own mind that if the initial thrust for the line did not result in a try (ie "the first grounding") he was not going to allow the try because he considered that a try scored well after this moment would have...

Analysis of Strength of Conference Tables.

What you are forgetting is that the holder of the muttonbird cup is allowed to bring the subject up an unlimited number of times in any thread and whatever the context until a new holder of the cup is declared.

Analysis of Strength of Conference Tables.

You can't say anything regarding the overall strength of the conferences on the result of one game. A sample size of 1 is not statistically significant. So nothing.

    QF1 2012 - Reds vs Sharks

Ugly won't even begin to describe it. I always think it is poor form for the captain to criticise the ref in his after match comments. Just gotta take it. Genia stocks went down for me there. The reality is that the Sharks were the far superior team in every facet of the game and were...

    Salary cap shenanigans

I have some law suit-provoking rampant speculation that I made up. Presumably it must be a team subject to the salary cap and with demanding stars that would put it close to or over salary cap. It sounds like it could really only be out of 2 teams, and the stars from one of those teams would...

    Salary cap shenanigans

I wouldn't worry too much about tracking which team trains at which club - if a team is prepared to make sham payments for the purpose of beating a salary cap, or worse defrauding the taxpayer, they are capable of fudging a few trainings.

    How long will Quade get?

Actually I think the report has been released. From the SANZAR website: http://www.sanzarrugby.com/superrugby/news/quade-cooper-suspended-for-one-week/ I guess this is as close to an official judgment as we are likely to get. Actually there is plenty to discuss in that Judgment, not...

    How long will Quade get?

As funny as that is, they were really just stirring - trying to play along with the audience to get a reaction. No-one would have been silly enough to give the Wallabies a chance in that game. :p
