    Rumour: Deans could be gone

I agree with this. If the Wallabies win their next 4 games against the Springboks and the Pumas and finish a clear 2nd in the tournament it might be hard to get rid of him. Even more so if the AB's give South Africa and Argentina a towelling worse than we did Australia.

    Rumour: Deans could be gone

NZ media is reporting that Deans will see out the RC and then coach the Waratahs next year. http://www.newstalkzb.co.nz/auckland/news/sprug/1089456490-deans-likely-to-be-dropped-after-rugby-championship...

    Rumour: Deans could be gone

I'm not really up with the new twitter age. Who wrote that? Who is jbcallinan? And why should we take it seriously?

    The ranting at Deans/ARU/O'Neill/Players thread

Maybe that is part of the reason he hasn't been playing him up till now. Maybe Cooper is a total prick - like all NZ knows in their hearts. :p

    The ranting at Deans/ARU/O'Neill/Players thread

If even half of that is half true, then the whole team needs a cleanout, starting with the coach, but also including the troublemakers and perhaps even replace the captain if he can't unite the team.

2012 Rugby Championship Game 2 New Zealand vs Australia - 25 August

I think the reasons for Deans getting knocked back for the AB's have been well litigated and in the absence of a tell all book from one of the selection committee are conjecture only. If I had to guess, and from what little has come out via "confidential sources" (ie PIDOOMA by Zavos et al) the...

2012 Rugby Championship Game 2 New Zealand vs Australia - 25 August

Nah, that is real tinfoil hat stuff I am afraid. Sitting stoically through a rugby game showing no expression at all is a Kiwi coaching tradition. For instance Grizz and Mains were experts at it. The tradition has been lost somewhat, but you will hardly ever see AB coaches pointing and...

The selection stuff ups aren't just in Australia

I can't speak for the South Africans, but I am very happy with the team that Hansen and Co have been picking. In particular I wouldn't make any of the changes you suggest, and I am not even sure I would pick Ranger in my Super XV team, let alone in the AB squad.

    Collapsed Mauls

    (a) It's badly worded but they are saying that if the ball doesn't touch the ground no-one has to let go of the ball or the ball carrier. It describes the common enought situation when the whole thing falls over in a heap and there are 2 or more players with their hands on the ball...

    Collapsed Mauls

Can a moderator move this to different thread? It's an interesting discussion and deserves a thread of its own.

    Collapsed Mauls

I don't mean to be unnecessarily contrarian, but I think you are essentially wrong about this. Let me quote the relevant law: 17.5 SUCCESSFUL END TO A MAUL A maul ends successfully when : • the ball or a player with the ball leaves the maul • the ball is on the...

    Collapsed Mauls

That is a thorny chestnut. There is a considerable debate that goes on amongst referees about the truth of the bolded statement. Here is one of many, many threads from RugbyRefs forum that illustrate the diverging range of opinions on the subject. At the end of the day, regardless of our...

    Collapsed Mauls

Generally that is still true, and good teams will often start controlled drives that go forward quickly and result in quick ball. What we are talking about here is players who through a lack of skill/great skill by the defenders get held up and are stationary. Often they are isolated by 2-3...

    Collapsed Mauls

I don't agree at all. If a player is so dominated or isolated that he can't even get to ground he should suffer the consequences. I also think that well organised mauls are already so hard to stop that there needs to be a potential downside to them or they would take over the game. If a team...

2012 Rugby Championship Game 2 New Zealand vs Australia - 25 August

There's obviously a bit of wailing and gnashing of teeth going on here and most of it is fair enough. Having said that and despite the scoreline, I thought the Wallabies were slightly better this week than last week. I thought there was more fire and aggression showed, especially in the first...

2012 Rugby Championship Game 2 New Zealand vs Australia - 25 August

That is the way to beat us all right. The Irish did that in the second test too, ditto the Frogs in the second half of the WC final. Hell, with very few exceptions, defeats (or close victories) for us come after being bashed a bit up front. Gotta keep it up for the whole time though. If I...

2012 Rugby Championship Game 2 New Zealand vs Australia - 25 August

I guess that's right, but then if you look at the Chiefs vs Crusaders semifinal earlier this year, the Chiefs had a very definite strategy of belting every Crusader at every opportunity early in the game. From memory it cost 2 penalties but it also set the scene and unsettled them a bit...

Wow, we're only getting $6 for an Aussie win. I wonder if its worth setting up accounts on both sites and laying bets off against each other.

Me too. Just thought I'd point out that although Rolland was very picky, he didn't carry this attitude through the lineout feeds.
