Wallabies v USA Eagles, 5th September, Soldier Field, Chicago

Palu drops an easy ball after some decent leadup phase play. Basic stuff. Then compounded with a penalty.

Would like a bit less headless chook, use the forwards a bit then try to get the ball more cleanly through our midfield. Show some respect instead of just trying to run through the US at every opportunity. Half time changes will be interesting. Foley still on, Phipps too it appears.

McMahon, TPN, rest of the front been our best I think. Not much to speak of from some of the rest. Palu would have gotten the first try if he could control the ball from a scrum moving quickly forward.

I hope the Wallabies took out insurance on the Coach's box and the change rooms.....

Big maul now from the Eagles, but TPN gets through and ties up the ball. If they had some better drilling that would've been a bit more dangerous. Not going the Wallabies' way now. Another good scrum, slight Phipps fumble but Phipps goes to Gits on the wing who grubbers forward and regains...

This game will open up in the last 20 as the USA tire from all their extra work, but gees Bailey has done a great job on their defence. Wallabies look very flat, waiting for that taper into the WC.

Shocking kick from Petrie, I think it actually went backwards. Beale ends up with the ball but his chopped hard low again. Then Giteau. Fantastic tackling from the USA. Wallabies kick out on the full, woeful kick. Missed who it was. This game isn't bad, it looked like the Wallabies...

Loose carry now from one of the props, missed which one. He tried to force a pass that wasn't on as he was tackled. Lots of mistakes from the Wallabies.

Say what you will about the leadup (offsides), but that was a very good try and some ordinary defence from the Wallabies - the Wallabies even had an extra man. Nguenya (spelling) sold it to Tomane. 14 - 10 to the Wallabies, 34 gone.

Beale hit with a big tackle as the Eagles steal. Peyper playing fast and loose. US go wide, winger steps in and breaks a few, pops inside and Petrie is in!

McMahon makes an impact in these games, I think he'll be a good 6 if he fills out. More pressure on Phipps, the US toe through and Tomane cleans up but is forced out, big gain for the US - then they through a loose pass, Speight toes through but the Eagles clean up 5m from their line. Game...

Gits makes a break at first receiver by stepping back inside but loses the ball 10m out. Another big scrum from the Wallabies but the Eagles get the ball in and out straight through the channel.

Nice unders line from TPN off Phipps, but McCalman drops an unexpected ball off Foley. Wallabies have been sloppy on attack, not building much pressure. Luckily we had an advantage.

Some big tackles from the US as Gits gets hit (well, eaten by the US 12) then Foley tries a chip and chase but it's well covered. The US have been caught short on occasion but their line speed is good and we're not running through them.

USA pressure Phipps and turn over the ball. They are pressuring the rucks well.

If Manu Samoa had regained that knock up from a Foley pass, it might have been dangerous. USA defence has been good off phase ball, Clark saying that Phil Bailey is the defensive coach, so that's unsurprising.

USA crowd gets something to cheer about. 14 - 3 20 gone.

USA with a lot of possession and two advantages for offside. They are taking the points from 40m out. How confusing are those NFL markings?

Great try from a nothing kick, but I gotta say, that looked a lot like a block/shephard from McMahon to create the space for Foley.

Unfortunate bounce from that kick from Beale, looked great off the boot then just straightened.
