    Sydney Subbies 2016

Then it closer to 600 players in a year walking away from rugby. I point the finger of blame at the years of neglect by the ARU however subbies need to manage the competition acknowledging the fact player numbers just arent there. I'd be recommedning grade reductions across the DIVs as...

    Sydney Subbies 2016

Interesting stats from the Subbies AGM. Player numbers declined from 6477 last year to 5648 this year. Thats a 829 decline and if you allow 300 from departed Hornsby & Campbelltown its still a loss over over 500 players. Thats 33 teams gone in a year!! Lets hope the Wallabies RWC efforts...

Correct, the solution is reducing the number of grades per DIV.

Would have meant the likes of Pierre Hola would not have been eligible to play for Hunters.

    Rugby TV ratings 2015

Any visibility of international TV ratings for the RWC as a whole. (Apart from those big Japanese numbers post thier SA victory)

    Rugby TV ratings 2015

Word around the water cooler was that those punters that watched it at their local (it appeared many clubs got a special license extension to open) was that they were all packed. These dont get picked up in FTA numbers.

    Sydney Subbies 2016

My understanding is that subbies have asked each club their preference for which Division they wish to play in for 2016. As well as and how many teams would they prefer to field. Lets see if any of the clubs make a dash for higher Div or even lower honours. Certainly clubs will only have...

    Sydney Subbies 2016

It goes without saying the location of the club makes life easier for committees. If you are in a natural rugby catchment area it is far easier to focus on all things rugby. If not most of the committee and coaching foxus is recruitment, player retention and keeping a short sited subbies at...

    Sydney Subbies 2015

This remains the challenge for subbies. A team that struggled to field 4 teams and a colts drops 2 divisions and still has to field 4 teams whilst dropping their strength, colts. I hope they hang around but many will probaly go elsewhere or stop playing rugby altogether. Imagine then that 2nd...

RWC: SAF v JAP (Brighton Stadium) Pool B

South Africa had the opportunity to close out the game at the 65th minute when they kicked to touch rather than take the 3 when leading 29-22. Great effort, game and atmosphere. I could have murdered a beer when I watched the replay at 7.00am this morning. Go Japan! Other talking point should...

Iggies to 3rd Div next year. Lindfield Up to 1st Div which will still make it a 9 team comp with bye week (assuming Brothers regroup) Is Waverley coming up to 2nd Div? Apparently there is a push on to reduce number of grades per Div.

Good to see Balmain and Knox break up the Colleagues/Mosman Grand Final love in.

Unfortunately Tommy I don't share your faith in subbies administration that the number of grades required to be filled will fall to sustainable levels. Until that occurs clubs will continue to burn forcing them to play 1.5/2 games a week to meet "requirements"

    Sydney Subbies 2016

Fiddling around with how many teams are fielded in top divisions is largely irrelevant in my opinion. I'd beg to differ here as I'd hardly call ensuring the ongoing sustainablility of suburban rugby clubs irrelevant. Continuing the current grade numbers when every stat tells you there are...

    Sydney Subbies 2016

No one is due for relegation from Div 2 this year. That was assuming its winner would go to Div 1 to make it a 10 team comp. Now with Brothers & Igges have collapsed maybe Brothers goes to 2nd Div and Igges 3rd Div with no one coming up from 3rd Div. If they stick with all the grades everyone...

2nd Div Wrap Barker - after a traditionally strong start numbers fell away badly mid season. A Stirling effort from their 1st grade side can't hide the fact they disappointed with only 1 team in finals. Blue Mountains - struggled to put a 4ths out all season and despite a late stack in 2nds...

With all due respect to both Harding working committees they are both located in the heartland. If they weren't as strong as they are questions would have to be asked. Unfortunately the litmus test for rugby is in broader metro Sydney and that's where player numbers are plummeting and clubs...

Good question.....you'll get 20 different answers but I reckon it's top 4 in 2nd grade grade.

Ozzie Bob, My tips are 4ths Hills 3rds Mountains Colts Lindfield 2nds Forest 1st BOBs Interesting that Newport had 4 grades and Hunters 3 in the semis but didnt cut the mustard.

Almost all of those Brothers players played Div 2 last year? My comment there is that most Div 2 clubs are scared to go to Div 1 as they think theyll get flogged in 1st grade. My point is maybe the gap isnt as big in 1st grade but I think in 2nds and 3rds present a much harder encounter for Div...
