If we were to end up with a third tier competition only we would surely be in an even worse position than we are today with only a second tier involvement. Whatever happens we must still have some sort of international involvement between the reworked club comp and the Wallabies.

Thank you WOB. So not in any way the sort of centralised control being lauded by proponents here. Edit : The NZ way clearly still has an important role for the regional unions in recruitment and contracting. They are not just responsible for club rugby in their areas.

Adam, I understand and accept there are structural inefficiencies in having 5 separate administrative setups when one centrally run support group acting nationally could save costs and provide a single public face for Aus rugby to the world. Just how much of those savings would be realised is...

I hope you're right Froggy, and I'd even put Jack Barratt in the mix, especially for post 2025.

I reckon we'll now see Waugh come up with agreement across the board for alignment/centralisation of High Performance, before Christmas. And probably an undertaking from the state unions to investigate and consult on further elements for alignment. I remain hopeful that each of the state unions...

Ahh. Back on the Wallabies discussion. I agree about both O'Connor and White in relation to the Wallabies for 2025/7 but Slipper is a bit like red wine. He has matured and just might make it through to the Lions tour at least. Hard to see him being displaced in two years by those coming through...

NSNL the worst outcome I can see would be for McLennan to survive on a split vote of even a majority of one. As you say NSW loses a vote on Jan 1, and the "rebels" (in my view, the good guys) would then have a majority to enforce another round of EGM and vote to kick him out. Would you think...

    Wallabies 2024

I know this discussion started out from a debate about where Jordan Petaia might play for the Wallabies, but it has morphed into a Reds backline selection discussion. Maybe better to move it to the Reds thread?

Just a couple of follow up thoughts nsnl. The stated outcome of the current centralisation negotiations is for RA to take over the licences of all franchises. Is that not exactly the same as owning those franchises? The state unions would be left with only the local comps and schools, I...

Are they one and the same as McLennan's only supporters currently?

FLW (Fergus Lee-Warner) is a very good player. Better than many gave him credit while he played at the Force.

Personally, I have reservations about RA control of rosters. That implies direction for players to move to whichever franchise RA deems needed. I can't see that working for established Super Rugby players and will more likely encourage more to look for overseas contracts. Contracts should be...

Welcome to your opinion about the best way forward nsnl, but where's the detail explaining what a centralised model consists of? All very well calling out the state unions for lack of detail, but RA are the people calling for change and commitment by all parties without any detail at all.

Adam seems to me that they would be willing to centralise or align their HP activities but retain ownership. That could probably happen almost immediately McLennan leaves the building.

    Wallabies 2024

The issue missing from most of the discussion about Petaia and Campbell is that under centralisation RA own the Reds and are interested primarily in aligning high performance there and at other clubs with their identified needs for the Wallabies, not necessarily the Reds.

    Wallabies 2024

He needs to be seen as the No 1 fullback option at the Reds and play there most of the time. Isn't this what centralisation of high performance means? RA identifies Jordan as a main option for fullback, so that's where he plays and Jock can probably go and earn better money in Japan or elsewhere?

Great under the high ball. Superb at 15 last year. I hardly think so in either case, but he is certainly one of the contenders for the spot. Qld just have to get over Campbell at 15 to give Petaia a better shot at the Wallabies spot.
