QLDer here that lived in Melb for a decade and even I admit it should be held in Sydney.

Love this post. Found myself nodding with most of it. Especially love the thoughts on Super Rugby and comps like NRL thriving off salary cap talk etc. most big sports these days are making most of their engagement off the field than on it. Anyone that watches US sports will realise 99% of podcasts, tv...

But the reserve guy isn’t going to be the old Reds hooker or the current Rebels hooker, because that guy is going to think why would I move to the Reds to sit on the bench. You’re presuming the best players will just fold into the remaining teams and the best young guys will be happy to sit it...

Those living in a fairy land about making players wait for opportunity and playing club rugby in the meantime etc. need to remember this interview with Angus Crichton back in 2017 ——————— ANGUS Crichton would be one of the hottest prospects in rugby union — not the NRL — had the NSW Waratahs...

I don’t mind Phil Waugh, genuinely believe he has his heart in the right place, but so question his appointment because of his ties to the old boys network.

I think we will see consolidation. Can see RA handing perpetual licenses to both Brumbies and Force to get this over the line.

Isn’t the whole theory of less teams means whoever is getting a starting gig at the clubs removed will play second fiddle at the consolidated club, therefore building standards? I genuinely don’t think it works like that in 2023, because nobody wants to be a reserve. Also the 3rd choice option...

Burkey explained why this doesn’t wash on the same podcast. Gits can think that because he’s always going to attract top dollar where he has played. Times have changed and the potential quality reserve isn’t going to sit around and offer competition in 2023, hes going to head overseas to play...

Unlikely but this would solve so many issues. So many but unfortunately the universe where it was offered would be in a galaxy far, far away

Yeh he explained very well the issues with doing so. Didn’t realise he was now part of rugby NSW set up

Nobody is saying this. There is a few been sarcastic but commonsense would indicate they truly don’t mean it

It’s comments like this that we can’t have anything nice anymore. So comments from guys that aren’t good enough to be pro’s saying that careers go to die at the Rebels. Haha. Not sure whose career has categorically died at the Rebels. It’s like an a-league player complaining they couldn’t make...

One thing we need to discuss is the fragmentation across the 4 groups that make up the game - grassroots - elite grassroots - Super Rugby clubs - Wallabies now the relationship across all of these towards each other is terrible. Many unaware of the disdain held towards them from the other. If we look...

    Broadcast options for Australian Rugby

I’d put good money on that the next broadcast deal will be more than it currently is. Not saying it will be remotely enough or a huge increase but tv companies are clamoring for live sport.

They can’t just bail, that wouldn’t hold up very well in court. However we are about to come back around to another contractual negotiations period with the tv deal expiring in the next 18months. It would just be a negotiation tactic to drive price down. Personally I enjoy the 9/Stan production...

Not saying from league. More highlighting that the issue isn’t our backs.

Tight 5 is where we need better athletes to compete. Minus Bell the tight 5 yesterday was a bunch of plodders. Slipper past it, Porecki not close to standard, Arnold a catch.com version of his brother and Frost athletically gifted but a wet pillow in contact. They were beaten up by a bunch of...

We need to throw more ire at the states. Because we have a federated model and the self interest that creates, RA is effectively powerless in so many areas of the sport. We are letting all the parties that are as responsible for this mess off the hook by pointing at RA.
