Player of the match - Wallabies v Italy

Hmmm. 3. Elsom (not for the blow up at the 1st half scrum) 2. Barnes 1. Moore Beale was very good again (aside from one chip too many). His defence, high ball reception and his running were all strong...on the few occasions he was involved.

    Italy vs Wallabies, EOYT 2010

Playing against Italy, Australia had lots to lose and not much to gain. If they lose it is a disgrace, and if they win (even by a distance) 'it was only Italy'. The good news is they won, and didn't really look like losing at any time during the match. The bad news (if there can ever be bad...

    Quade Cooper and Summer Digressions

LOL - that would explain a lot indeed. Or maybe he did say that - it would explain his fetish for the um, younger members of the squad.

Wales v Fiji...an upset in the making?

As far a raw material goes, Fiji has got loads of guys with the size, speed, skills and strength. What they don't have is the professional structure to take full advantage of them. I don't really have the answers for this problem - I guess they need to do the same thing Aussie soccer does (try...

Wales v Fiji...an upset in the making?

16 all draw, but I think Fiji should have gone for the try. They would have won it. Fiji really only did one thing very well - defend, aggressively - but coupled with their physical strength in contact when attacking, it was enough. Their scrum was not great.

Wales v Fiji...an upset in the making?

12 mins to go, 3 points in it. Fiji are dangerous when the lead is so small. Unfortunately it is more the Welsh lowering their standards than the Fijians pressuring them (or raising theirs). There has been loads of very scrappy play.

Rugby World Cup. In What Universe

I can't go off dreaming in my happy place? The reality of the situation this week seems to have pushed me over the edge.

I'm hoping it is not in an alternate universe the we see that team.

No Mauro Bergamasco? Is he out of form or injured? He has been one of their best for a while.

Rugby World Cup. In What Universe

In answer to the question, RWC - What Universe: The Wallaby Team for the 2011 RWC Final. 1. Benn Robinson (having won the s15 with the Waratahs, Fatcat has his mojo back) 2. Tatafu Polota-Nau (now enjoys the nickname "Dead Eye" for his immaculate lineout throwing) 3. Ben Alexander (unlucky to...

Rugby World Cup. In What Universe

A good new coach could make a positive impact on our World Cup hopes, but finding such a person is the issue. After his (relative) success building on the work of Mooney for QLD, Link looks like he could do a similar job and build on the work of Deans et al for the Wallabies BUT I have no idea...

Rugby World Cup. In What Universe

I am absolutely certain that Deans is doing his very best, which can sometimes be a bit depressing. We are in a funny situation when dealing with coaches. Barbarian mentioned in another thread (quite rightly) that we don't really know what goes on behind closed doors, so given our lack of...

    Munster v. Australia

Van Humphries may have been the only name widely accepted, but Phil Waugh (as a leader and hard/bleeding head) and Al Baxter (seasoned if less hard headed) were both also proposed by me. In the case of Waugh, it was specifically a captain of the Aussie BaaBaas and dirt trackers for the tour...

    Quade Cooper and Summer Digressions

I agree - so it should be a case of "we've helped you, now help yourself...or you are benched" Bringing Beale into 10 when the Wallabies are defending has many flaws: - he isn't that amazing a defender - he would not be at fullback to launch his amazing counter attacks - the cause of...

    Munster v. Australia

Not being privvy to what goes on in preparation for a match, nor to what extent the Wallabies were instructed on how to play, there is a limit to how much one can point the finger at the coaching staff. I don't accept that the conditions in themselves should have been the deciding factor...
