    Wales v Australia

Definitely. I'm talking about Jones and why we haven't seen him yet.
  2. Dumbledore

    Wales v Australia

He's really not. He's 6'6" and 110kg, so it's not like he's absolutely massive. Pretty much the prototypical size for the modern six. Normally does his best work grinding away in the tight as a runner although he can do some damage out wide once he gets moving. He's not explosive in the way...

    Official Sean McMahon Bandwagon Thread

Hang on, he's hardly getting the Curtis 'next Mark Loane' Browning hype. He's had the best first professional year of rugby from an Australian player that I can recall, has stepped up to every challenge and has played well at every level he's been exposed to. People aren't just saying that...

Australian U20 Captain, Australian U20 Player of the Year, Rebels Rookie of the Year, Australian Super Rugby Rookie of the Year, Commonwealth Sevens bronze medal, Melbourne Rising Player's Player, NRC Player of the Tournament. What a scrub. Better not mention all those awards to him in case he...

It'll be the first step towards midnight Hungry Jacks if you do. The internet is very serious business and shouldn't be treated lightly.

    Official Sean McMahon Bandwagon Thread

Are you serious? I'm not quite sure how much more tongue-in-cheek the OP could have been. Can see him struggling under the enormous weight of media expectation from this quote on the single Fairfax article featuring him - There's one article about him in the Australian that I can see, so...

    Wales v Australia

I agree. I'd start with Jones at 6 and McMahon on the bench but the other way around works just as well. Either way, you're getting good positional versatility and protection.

    Official Sean McMahon Bandwagon Thread

Haven't really though. How much of it is causation and how much is correlation? McMahon doesn't play 'light' like, say, a Hoiles. He plays heavy in the carry, and at the ruck for that matter. So if he gets a run against the Welsh and plays well again do you have to start reconsidering...

    Official Sean McMahon Bandwagon Thread

I would be very keen to have a look at that.

    Wallabies v Barbarians - 1/11/14 (Twickenham)

Doesn't really prove anything tbh. All it proves is that ESPN reckon he hit 50 rucks. No one has any issue with his workrate, it's whether he provides enough of a physical presence in the tackle/ruck/maul/carry. There's just nothing in the public domain at the moment that tells us the sort of...

    Wallabies v Barbarians - 1/11/14 (Twickenham)

Taking ESPN's stats as gospel will only ever end in tears. They're useful enough to paint a broad picture, but like most similar sites they tend not to be especially accurate. And even when they are they still don't tell you as much as you need to know to make a really accurate judgement...

Nope. Irrationally hyping/dismissing players based on tiny sample sizes is one of the best parts of being a sports fan.

Sign up to register your man/ladylove before he goes completely nuclear against the Welsh. Choo choo! Sorry for the terrible gif quality, haven't found a super crisp replay yet.
  16. Dumbledore

    Wallabies v Barbarians - 1/11/14 (Twickenham)

Struggling through the ridiculously poor stats sites rugby has to offer, it looks like McMahon's numbers come to something like this: 11-12 carries for 85-100m, 3 linebreaks, 1-2 offloads, 9 tackle busts, 10 rucks hit, and a lineout win. No tackle stats out that I can find, and obviously the...

    Wallabies v Barbarians - 1/11/14 (Twickenham)

The obsessive, borderline homoerotic, attention some people pay to the players' appearances is just bizarre. Do you seriously think Horne growing his hair out affects his play? Maybe it was his girlfriends idea? Maybe he just doesn't feel like cutting it? Maybe the ponytail is slightly less...

    Wallabies v Barbarians - 1/11/14 (Twickenham)

Doubters, not haters. There have been a few people getting around whinging about him being taken on the tour, not just on here mind. Even more people, me included, who thought he wouldn't be able to play 6 at this level.
