This thread is a hoot - my first visit.
Whatever he weighs and however tall he is, McMahon has a priceless attribute: he plays a heavy game. In other words: he has the impact of someone who is a heavier player.
There are not many around like that, and too many who weigh a lot and don't have the facility to make it count, though they try their best to.
He has another uncommon quality: whatever game he has, he is able to bring it to whatever ever type, or level, of rugby that he has been involved with.
But when I saw him three years ago playing in the backrow of Aussie Schools beating NZ Schools at Knox - with Miller and Baldwin - as a 187 cms and 87 kgs no. 8, I never thought about the prospect of these things.
Watching the game I wondered how any of those three would make it to pro rugby the way they were built at that time.
It just goes to show that if a lad has a burning desire, he can overcome obstacles.
There are many young fellows that I have watched in their school days who I see running on later in Super Rugby and test matches, and the old eyes get moist.
I'm sure I'll have the same experience when McMahon runs on at Millennium Stadium.
