    Country v B&I Lions

Doesn't seem to have been mentioned but the falcon in the 13th minute from the conversion attempt from wide that rebounded back off the upright and knocked the guy picking the tee up in the head must be one of the best ever. Apologies for horribly long sentence.

    School sporting scholarships/recruitment

Somewhat segueing but my Korean intern informed me today her brother has in the last year gone to HK twice to trial for a Australian school rugby scholarship. Given the recent announcement re more foreign players for the Force and Rebels maybe the Sydney GPS schools should put up or shut up. In...

Why is Marto employed as a commentator?

Yes indeed - although once in a blue moon there is an opportunity to recover a fumble.

Battle of the Blood Red: Lions v Queensland Reds 8th June 2013

Did Tim Horan just say that Farrelll as 19 year old played with with his dad as a 34/35 year old. Obviously went to the Pulver school of arithmetic. edit no - I think it was Clark (additional info indicates dad was 16 - my apologies to mr clark)

Force vs Waratahs - Super Rugby R17 2013

And the Sum of Us - a nice early one from Rusty.

Why is Marto employed as a commentator?

HWC, agree (with both observations ). I wonder half-seriously if Marto should see a neurologist because he played a heavy contact sport for many years and it sounds like he is progressively deteriorating.

    The Pulverisation of Australian Rugby

Statistically improbable that Aussie teams could finish 1st 2nd 3rd 4th and 5th given they play half their games against each other. Mr Pulver needs to brush up on his Year 5 arithmetic before making such bold statements.

Hmmm.......please read the AAGPS Code of Practice (I can post the website if you can not find it) and then reflect on your observation.

    School sporting scholarships/recruitment

Time for a deep breath and some reflection. "School sport, or to use the traditional name “games”, is primarily undertaken for educational objectives, and the prime purpose is to provide wide participation at a good level for all boys throughout the school. These objectives include the...

    School sporting scholarships/recruitment

Even discussing Newington's targetting of talented rugby boy (ie U16s in 2011) in the same post as the Australian Indigenous Education Foundation is somewhat disingenuous.

    School sporting scholarships/recruitment

Implicit pressure is brought to bear on A level players after about the 13s - try doing well in a semi when 4 of your best players do not turn up - happened. No one gave a toss about one of my sons playing until U16 as he was not in the picture for a high team. 2/3rds of his club side were...

    School sporting scholarships/recruitment

There are some qualitative issues separating Joeys. Happy to be corrected but it is my understanding they have big intakes in Years 9 & 11 - not sure of exact numbers but from roughly 110-120 to 140-150 to 180-190, which is different to the other GPS schools that have relatively standard numbers...

    School sporting scholarships/recruitment

Reasonable probability of some enhancement but cannot discount that Dads believe their best chance to be parent of schoolboy legends is by sending them to Joeys. Surprised U14s coming into Year 9 - unless super talented will only have 1 year in opens.

    ACTJRU U18 & ACT Schools XV 2013

I am not sure how you evaluate what constitutes a "top Sydney rugby school" - across the board (ie 1stXV thru to 13Gs) Knox probably rank only behind Joeys, Iggies, Kings, and Shore, all of whom used to have Knox on their pre-season schedule for this very reason. Knox boys in SuperXV include...

Press releases from the ARU Media Unit

    1. My concern with Bill Pulver's appointment was his apparent lack of extensive experience with the media. 2. That they continue to release (or pre-release) crap PR's under his watch heightens my concern. 3. Can someone who knows Bill please email him this thread. 4. It would not be hard to...
