With Canham having signed for next year I expect he'll come straight into training and be available for the game against Wales. Depending on how many of Smith, Blyth, Wright and Wilson remain off with the Wallabies there should be plenty of room for him to slot straight into the 23 for that game.

Melbourne Rebels Players - where are they going?

I assume Daly might be one and done if Salakia-Loto and Canham are coming in. Might head back down to Sydney given his time at Randwick. Uru probably shifts over to the back row more often and Bryant's minutes get managed while he's still young. Connor Anderson probably moves on from the back...

Was rested for Madrid, but he was with them for the practice series against Fiji and is in camp in Darwin: https://www.theroar.com.au/2024/06/25/hooper-nawaqanitawase-have-six-days-to-prove-theyre-olympic-ready-as-aussie-sevens-squad-head-to-darwin/

Yeah, I kind of expect Wilkin is one of the 3 rebels open to the tahs for that reason - he'd back himself over Gamble and it's far and away his best chance of getting a start and pushing his case for the wallabies, where as most of the others would still rate their chances at the other...

Hearing Wilkin is headed to NSW or that Gamble is looking for a way out?

Ben Thomas and Jacob Beetham are seen as the cover, but it's a risky proposition for them - neither have much time there in the professional game. That said I'm not sure the game plan requires a particularly creative or elusive flyhalf, Gatland is on record saying he wants a big body there.

Best they've done in a very long time. Much better than last years golf polo

Interesting comparison of test caps between us and the Welsh on twitter: https://x.com/rpetty80/status/1805220324293648471?t=3ndvnAVsGZ-fIOHNs6nnMA&s=19 Both squads very inexperienced but surprisingly close in caps across the board.

Is it that hard to understand that players at a club that has just collapsed after financial mismanagement are holding out to go to one of the teams who are relatively stable on and off the field and investing in their player development outside the season? Why after all they've been through...

Lynagh's value isn't necessarily highlight reel stuff, a lot of it is good tactical kicking and match control. That said slotting the winning penalty from 50 out is highlight reel worthy in my book. Either way the work the Reds have been doing on socials this year is significantly better than...

Without specifically commenting on Sua'ali'i's selection, NSW origin are hardly the model selectors setting an example we should all follow. Generally speaking, they're known for getting it wrong more often than not.

Super Rugby Final 2024. Blues v Chiefs, June 22.

That was what Reiko said. It has absolutely nothing to do with who is playing where or the relative strength of the competition over the years.

McLaughlin-Phillips will likely still be with the under 20s for this one. The other factor is probably going to be any incoming Rebels. I imagine they'll come straight onto the books and start training. Integrating some of them into the matches against Wales and Tonga would be good, as long as...

I think the argument would be that the cap increases but the grant doesn't (or at least not to meet it, given it's already below the cap amount). It would then be on those teams to work out how much they can afford to pay as overs, which probably only means the Reds and maybe the Force to a degree.

Squad sizes are also restricted under the cap and will need to shift as well. The broader problem with all that is what happens in a year or two - does it all contract back down forcing players out or can it be maintained?
  18. Wilson

    Australian Rugby / RA

Yeah, that's absolutely the case (assuming those players don't take an overseas contract) though I don't believe it'll come to that. With RA having to pay their salaries they'll end exploring salary cap exemptions to get the players where they're happy going and other opportunities like 7s to...

    Waratahs 2025

As it stands you don't have the personnel signed to field a full 23 or potentially even 15, it's going to take time build that out to whatever strategy an incoming coach wants to play. Also worth noting if Tupou ends up at the tahs then having McKellar come in, ideally bringing Palmer with him...
