Karmichael Hunt charged with cocaine supply.

Nope - WADA bans for supply, and the threshold for guilt is much much lower than criminal courts. If Hunt makes a deal where he admits guilt/culpability to avoid further criminal prosecution, that is enough for the WADA ban for supply to kick in. I believe that it's now 4 years but at the time...

Karmichael Hunt charged with cocaine supply.

I think you'll find that the Focus of that report was match fixing and illicit drugs in the NRL. The Muppet may have known more than he was given credit for...

Karmichael Hunt charged with cocaine supply.

If theyve registered with a club then they're covered under ARU insurance. It's a contractual requirement that they hold private health insurance and the smart ones hold income protection insurance. You'd be surprised how completely vulnerable many players are.

Karmichael Hunt charged with cocaine supply.

Costs to get them back on the field. And there are some costs that aren't covered by medical insurance (and therefore ARU insurance) such as MRIs in some conditions (I could go into them but it's even more off topic) and other associated rehab stuff. If you're relyimg on ARU insurance to...

Karmichael Hunt charged with cocaine supply.

I believe each franchise covers the out of pocket expenses of contracted players injured playing rugby. I'm 90% confident of that. So no, it's a big question (and potentially huge expense) that just hasn't come up yet.

Karmichael Hunt charged with cocaine supply.

Yeah, it's a strange one because even though the contracts run Jan to Jan, I believe players are generally paid from day 1 (year 1 $$ divided by 14 or 15 months rather than 12). Again, an agreement, but not a written requirement. I'm not a lawyer, but I have employed staff before and I'm...

Karmichael Hunt charged with cocaine supply.

They used to run Oct to Oct but the transition to calendar year happened January 2014. It is interesting though that legally, for any newly contracted player, they are essentially required to train full-time without pay between start of preseason & January, and if they get a season-ending injury...

    QLD Premier Rugby 2015

My thoughts are that he's a really big unit and I think the extra mobility and distance coverage requirements he'd have as a 7 would be a stretch for him, especially over a season, and even more so year in and year out.

    QLD Premier Rugby 2015

I think there is a link and a really valid point in what I think you are trying to say (if I'm reading it right): a string of away games early in the season can mean perhaps a couple of losses by two that could've just as easily been wins by two. Given table standings over the past few seasons...

Thompson is reluctant to commit to another year (although is down at training to see if he's needed for Sydney) but work commitments now that he's a practicing lawyer are only growing. I believe Buchanan is off to the US initially, and we've also lost Arvier overseas (working, not playing rugby).

    QLD Premier Rugby 2015

No worries at all. On the Queensland U20s the eligibility thing is blurry - there's nothing that forbids him from playing, but I think it depends on the purpose of the U20s comp. My understanding is that the primary function of the U20s comp is around the selection and preparation of the JWC...

Foreign players with no Aussie parents or grandparents have to be registered in Australia for 3 years before they are eligible to play for Australia in any capacity. If, at any point in that 3 years, they register with a foreign union for any period (say, 3 months for NPC, 6 days so they're...

    Strapping

Scoey - the injury 'diagnosis' is actually what predisposes you to redoing the medial meniscus over and over. The impact of the initial injury, left unaddressed, over time lead to all of those problems. Then all of those problems both put your knee joint into a position, and also make your...

    Strapping

Yes. Yes. A thousand times yes. And often it's players getting strapped for an injury they don't have, complaining that the strapping doesn't do what they wanted it to do, and insisting that the problem is not enough strapping. No, the problem is that you've never found out what your injury...

    Strapping

I love physios (and I really love my physio!) but what I see the most is that players get 'physio fit' - pain free during daily life and some games - but don't get fit for colliding with 100kg blokes week after week. I can't stress enough the importance of a balanced gym program lifting heavy...

    Strapping

Now for all those 'tape falling off' problems that EVERYONE has - not just Scoey. The tape most people are familiar with (the brown, sometimes white 38mm non-stretchy strapping tape) is called rigid tape. Its designed to restrict or guide movement, therefore supporting ligaments that may have...

    Strapping

Scoey - see a physio. Knees (playing at the recreational level) shouldn't need strapping 12 months after even ACL surgery, and strapping is notoriously ineffective for 'dodgy knees' for so many reasons: In all my years, 'dodgy knees' has referred to a structural problem with the knee joint...

Where to for quality Rugby journalism???

Agreed p.tah. Few have covered themselves in glory. What HAVE the consultants that Pulver brought in actually done, btw? (May be slightly off topic)

Where to for quality Rugby journalism???

p.tah it's certainly an interesting state of affairs. Personally I put more credence into the version that has names and dates and people willing to put their name to quotes. I don't hold so much stock in 'senior players' and 'sources close to the team', or 'Beale's manager'. I'm uncomfortable...

    Kurtley Beale

Sorry mjw - I think I wasn't clear. Pulver can't compel Beale (even though if the CEO of my company told me to do something I'd jump) and Link & Doyle (and eventually Patston) didn't seem to be able to get Beale to change his shirt without a mid-air incident either. Seems to be a pattern
