    Shute Shield 2017

Hospital Cup in Brisbane. Dewar Shield in Melbourne. John I Dent Cup in ACT Pindan Premier Grade in Perth All played over at least 2 rounds (home-and-away) with similar start and finish dates to SS. Pity we can't have 2 full rounds.

The problem with a national club comp is the cost of flying players all over the country. (With Buildcorp withdrawing its sponsorship this may be a problem for the NRC also.) I certainly doubt the clubs could afford this cost and the ARU doesn't give money to clubs. I note Lion Nathan and BMW...

The Waratah team "extending the club’s global footprint into the Asian market" and "develop(ing) strong new commercial relationships in Japan" seems to be short of half backs. I know they're only playing one game (why bother?) but who would play half if Lucas got injured I wonder?

I agree, QH --- the Emus had some notable wins over Randwick in those days, including at Coogee Oval. What a waste.

More contempt for the SS with the Waratah junket to Japan this week. Why on earth couldn't that have been timed to coincide with the SS bye weekend on 17/6? Not only have clubs lost the services of their regular Waratah players but also the fringe squad members who have been playing for their...

    Shute Shield 2017

I think that was the original intent but after 22 years they're still struggling in spite of the best efforts of many people. Not sure their subbies record justified their promotion in 1995. Sent from my SM-J110F using Tapatalk

Manly and the Rats both looked somewhat overawed by the occasion IMO. Although the scores were close and the intensity high I didn't think it was a very entertaining game, as a neutral observer watching on TV. Any thoughts?

Wicks 3rds turned up expecting a non-comp game, but Penrith didn't turn up --- no notice to players or fans apparently. Emus seconds only had 15 players, 1 walked off and so we then had uncontested scrums. One player appeared to be knocked out but got up and kept playing. Huxley played 15 in...

I believe rugby league had the same rule and at one stage half the St George team were supposedly living at Frank Facer's house.

22k from Death Valley to Rouse Hill Town Centre, 26k from TG Millner :) Is Rouse Hill considered to be part of Parra's catchment area or the Woodies? I'm not really familiar with the western boondocks.

    Closer to Parramatta o_O

Player points are now up on the NSWRU website (Fusesport App). Not sure how correct they are (ie some players have zero points and some colts' totals are above the allowance o_O), but at least they're now available.

Big second half from the Wicks this afternoon. Gordon trailed early but were back in contention at 12-20 down at HT having dominated field position running up to the break. Then wiped off the park by Wicks 54-0 in the second half. Running rugby at its best! Great contribution from the...

    Shute Shield 2017

Given Norths long unbeaten run I probably should have realised they had it, but who even thinks about it these days? Pity the NSWRU website doesn't indicate who the current holder is. Anyway it's up for grabs at Coogee this weekend if Gordon are good enough.

Apparently Wicks won the Sir Roden Cutler Shield on Saturday. Who knew? I thought this was a great idea when it was introduced many years ago, but it certainly doesn't get much publicity. I doubt the Wicks' players even knew it was up for grabs.

I heard that the NRC is starting on 2/9, thus avoiding a clash with the SS GF on 26/8. Can anyone confirm that?

Wicks were without Baldwin (gone bush?), Munro, Short and Goddard also. Wicks game plan was very conservative --- kick for field position and take every shot at goal within range. We got the points!

And it will soon start to die in either Perth or Melbourne as well. Sent from my SM-J110F using Tapatalk
