The one and only Wallaby Coach thread

The thing that always shits me is when a coach starts talking about playing with an “Australian identiy”. They’re already wearing the national colours and our coat of arms and singing our anthem - it’s such a cop out. Half of these players wouldn’t be able to characterise the successful...

    Australian Rugby / RA

You are obviously trolling. In 2011 the Reds only dropped one game outside of the Aus conference. Ironically qld played its worst rugby against Aus teams that year. On the other hand Brumbies were wearing cotton jerseys the last time they won I'm pretty sure.

I agree with the latter point but ultimately if he can be good enough then he is big enough. As I say, not his biggest cheerleader but I am sensitive to prevailing commentary all over world rugby atm that players need to be bigger. There will be players in the next 5 years who have such speed...

I don't see Gleeson as favourably as some others here do but in conparison to Ardie Savea but he is on paper 1cm taller and 10kg heavier.

    RUGBY JERSEYS

This jersey blows. Crusadists simply cannot win the comp wearing that generic office polo design.

I expect we'll all be having this exact same conversation in 12 months.

    Your doubts are well founded.

Unfortunately, yes. Regardless though these players don't actually have that many hours on a weekly basis and if 3 hours of kicking training in addition to core training a week is too much for some then I'll happily put my hand up. It's not heavy work.

Note the past tense in my post. An extension of my point is that whilst we need good wingers to replace Koroibete, Nawaqanitawase is not of that same calibre and doesn't require RA to sacrifice huge amounts of resources to do so. If he wants to go and a good offer can't make him stay, who...

I think he's better than average too but he's not a unicorn and we can replace him. He's probably just as good as a league winger whereas Koiroibete for example was able to do more in Rugby.

Which is apparently less than he's currently on. That could be bullshit though. I'd be sad to see him go but if RA are letting this contract negotiation take up more than .1% of their time I'll be more sad.

Joe Aston's former column in the AFR really exposed just how true this is. I didn't always agree with Joe's findings but his philosophy of refusing to drop a subject until it was resolved and fighting these hard-line blame shifters with hard facts was the only way to do that. For Australia to...

I don't think you could coach the wrestle anything like they do in League though. We have to release the tackled player immediately whilst in League they have to hold for several seconds. Agree though that effective wrestling done legally is extremely important to breakdown success. The broader...

I've always rankled at this, as: - League ball runners have 10 metres of space every 'play'. - there are fewer players on the field in League. - the laws of rugby around the tackle are very different to League rules. - in Rugby, the primary objective of a tackle is to create a new contest for...

Current runners up of the top 14, although they did get smashed in the final. Previously 4th placed.

Really? I recall all those stories about making his players iron their own clothes and walk the last bit to the ground. He was always pretty much a brick wall to the press iirc. Whereas Jones expanded the staff to the biggest the Wallabies have ever had and gave the players everything...

RWC Final - New Zealand v South Africa 29/10/23, 0800 NZDT

I believe the citing commissioner can identify red card worthy incidents and refer them but don't quote me on that. Yellow cards aren't judiciary level offences so in this case the yellow card given to Kolisi obviously won't get there but I'm surprised Frizell's wasn't upgraded frankly.

RWC Final - New Zealand v South Africa 29/10/23, 0800 NZDT

I'm going to miss Barnes quite a lot. He's easily been the best ref over the last cycle, as exemplified by the rwc final. Such a good final it was, too. It will always be remembered as a genuinely great match in which the best team won, unlike in 2011 as an example. Guess that's all there is -...

From what Quade says about McKenzie I'd be shocked if their relationship was in a poor place. He is a deity to Quade and was the only coach to convince him to play a style for like 7 years until Rennie.

RWC Final - New Zealand v South Africa 29/10/23, 0800 NZDT

Completely disagree, ABs desperate for a TH in the dying minutes laid on the weight immediately and pushed before the ball was fed. I think Barnes would have been closer to a short arm for early shove than for not holding the weight.
