The Highlanders and Chiefs voting is wild. The captain and coach both picked an entirely different set of three people.

I feel for all those teams, esp after last year seeing a longer list of injured players for the Tahs!

Add Luke Jacobsen to Tribe's injury list, it's been confirmed he broke his nose. Poihipi will have scans tomorrow to determine the severity of his knee injury which looked like a potential season-ender.

Round 2 votes are in:

Interesting to see no one has more than 6 points so far, leaving lots of names very much in contention (Taumoefolau is my new favourite for it).
Who votes on that?
Tom Wright 2 points? Dylan Pietsch 0?
Thats completely ridiculous.
Tom Lynagh no points in his game?

Immediately following each game of the Super Rugby Pacific regular season, captains and head coaches from both sides will each nominate their top three players from the opposing team, allocating 3 votes, 2 votes and 1 vote respectively.

I don't have a problem with the scoring so far. Pietsch getting none seems odd with Toole and Slipper scoring 1 especially.

Taumoefolau has been awesome and I reckon Roigard will poll most weeks and keep climbing the ladder.

Potentially controversial but is Garden-Bachop receiving more love as he is performing with a very well resources Dad bod? Is this a flyhalves version of red head gear?

It's the opposition captain and coach each giving 3-2-1s. So for those games it was:

Reds: McReight (3, 2), Wilson (3, 2) and Daugunu (1,1)
Force: White (3, 2), Tizzano (3), Swain (2), Potter (1), Tomkinson (1)

Feels like too many players getting points in a match tbh. Don't know what's wrong with 3,2,1 for the game in total. Guess we'll have more Aussies near the top come the end of the year..

Every team gets 12 player of the year points awarded every game.

I like that we finally have a player of the year award but I don't like that it is guaranteed that every team receives the same number of points. Both teams just voting on the best players in each match would at least reward winning teams.

That said I am hoping that this works out very well for Fraser McReight because he was paying $101 to be player of the year (vs Ardie Savea @ $4).

I don't mind having 12 points, hopefully means there's more variance. I wonder if the captain and coach collude or do it separately.

My issue isn't the total number of POTY points awarded each game, it's that they're evenly split between both teams regardless of the match result.
