The only people not getting the message are those in charge. And a their ever dimishing cheer squad.

Although there is some hope from an unlikely source (the NSWRU). Words at the moment, but the penny might have dropped.

We'll soon see if deeds match words.

NSW Rugby boss Andrew Hore says the game can no longer afford disunity, as his organisation finalised the merging of two boards that had been warring for years.
The NSW Rugby and Waratahs boards were officially reunited, to be led by new president Marty Roebuck, at the annual general meeting this week.
With Australian rugby struggling financially and for public resonance amid poor performances, Hore said within NSW there was common ground in a need to put an end to agenda-driven fights.
“There’s definitely a feeling that we’ve got to pull together here for the good of the sport,” Hore said.
“That’s been one of the heartening things over the past 18 months, there are people that genuinely care, they’re not always the people that are speaking in the press, they’re people who are working bloody long, hard, voluntary hours behind the scenes to get rugby back to where it should be at all levels.
“People see we need to change and move forward.
“There wasn’t any nastiness or upheaval, it was like ‘We’ve got to do this’.”
Under the new arrangement, the united board will oversee three new advisory councils that look after “metro”, “country” and “semi and professional” rugby in the state.

Maybe its been this way for years now, but I believe now we have lost touch with the NRL & AFL and thinking we can catch them is now decades away if ever.

We are now in a dog fight with soccer, basketball, netball for king of the second level. Its looks to me Super Rugby within two years will be last in this list.

Basketball bringing back some big names and in growth off a low base, netball in boom times, soccer's civil war coming to an end [FIFA appointed Committee] so expect a major growth, plus a turn around to go with there expansion plans and new structure.

I get a sense of lost, hhhmmmmm lost time.

Its becoming increasingly obvious Super Rugby is in deep trouble and rather than develop an alternative plan we keep trying to make what is failing work. Tahs, Rebels & Brum's all have sub 10K crowd averages.

We need to determine what will work, what model to go for. We don't have an SBS to help get government help and where hard core rusted's can go in bad times.

I have always maintained it will take 4 years to develop a model acceptable to key stakeholders, get key people and bodies involved, get broadcasters on board etc.

We seem to be determine to hang on to the bitter end. We seem to be scared to trust the game. We seem to be scared trust rugby folk.

I have watched with great interest the current soccer civil war, and am amazed in many ways at some of the similarities, they want an independent professional competition from the governing body. Rugby needs this as well, would be happy for someone like Twiggy to lead.

A small group of people with existing bias's and determined that it's their way or the highway is not what we need.

just bouncing along the bottom of the chart, in companies this can go on for years before it either breaks up or dies. While there is still enough money to limp along nothing will change.
Change is expensive and could bring about the end quickly, no CEO wants that on their record when they can keep getting a paycheck and pretending all is well to the shareholders.
NZ isn't really in a position to help either, my guess is they don't see alot to be confident about so are battening down the hatches.
Looks like Twiggy and his 100m a year for 10 yrs is going to have a easy time of it, especially with world rugby onside.
Is this figure legit? It seems higher than what I've seen mentioned previously. I have been off air for a couple of weeks though.

In today's article it mentions that they are looking at around10mil for this season on the watered down WSR. I assume that number will go up moving forward no idea to what though.

Those were the sort of numbers I'd heard. Maybe the 100m / yr figure posted was a typo?

Slight edit on the above

The Newcastle Hunter Rugby Union now consists of 19 clubs with 3 Divisions as well as numerous junior teams (Hunter Junior Rugby Union) and a Women’s competition.
Newcastle /Hunter could fill a spot in the Shute Shield.

Apparently there is a vacancy

The Newcastle / Hunter has 9 sides hhmmmm maybe 10 in its top tier.

They have more players and more media than the Shute teams.

The Central Coast sits between them.

Dare I say the Hunter / Newcastle competition is in better shape than the SS competition.

My guess is their would be more financial support out of Hunter / Newcastle than in the Shute teams as well.

If it was me I would form a 30 team Hunter / CC / SS competition.

Play each other once so 29 rounds, with finals so say 33 weeks.

Dead rubber.

See I don't buy that. We lost a game by the skin of the teeth in Dunedin that was not a dead rubber. Perhaps we wouldn't have won one if it wasn't a dead rubber (the 3rd game), but the fact that we came within an unfortunate kick-off receipt (personally I think Read was offending in that one) of taking a game that was not a dead rubber says to me that the result of the third game is legitimate. Perhaps it was the first game whitewash that wasn't?

Makes me curious- why do we always have to play New Zealand first? I feel like it takes us a game or two to hit our straps and whenever it is NZ first up we get embarrassed. How about Argentina or South Africa first next year.

No, I don't get my K's, m's and bn's mixed up. It was mentioned a long time ago and I can't locate it?
Whether it was factual or not I don't think it matters. When anyone, but Twiggy in this case, is publicly disrespected by a imo a horrible piece of work, then the amount of money required to fix the issue is irrelevant, assuming of course that you have the spare money, Twiggy will spend whatever it requires.
100m pa for 10yrs is not beyond him.
Twiggy has also publicly said he will start a competition and will make it work. Thus he has put his reputation on the line and therefore again he will spend whatever is required to achieve his stated goals.

The Waratahs have gone bust, Half. One of the great traditional Newcastle teams, due to a "lack of players". They were premiers in 2014. How does that fit with your narrative, mate? Actually, I just did a bit of googling, there are other stories about clubs pulling out of competitions, or being in danger of it. Lake Maquarie's position in the competition is "under review". Maitland has pulled out of the under 19 competition, leaving four teams. Maitland!!!

Accurate or not, a figure of $100m /yr over the next 10 years has been mentioned:

https://www.sportsbusinessdaily.com...ues-and-Governing-Bodies/Rugby-Australia.aspx

Of course, even if reported, it doesn't mean that amount will be invested by Forrest - for one thing, the competition hasn't been approved.

For the interim, though, I'd think tens of millions isn't too much of a stretch for the program as known to date.

Sports are always a punt.

Who are you backing, the mugs at SANZAAR?

I am just stating the frigging obvious. I know the difference between an investment and a punt. Maybe you don't. You used the word. Now you are backing down, are you? It is a punt after all, apparently.

I am not backing anybody, only Eastwood. Frankly, some of the insults and other childishness that abounds on threads like these makes me despair for future of our game.

Are you capable of saying anything positive at all, because the evidence points to you being a supercilious curmudgeon.

Hey Steve, welcome to the forum. We get that you're here to push the WA Rugby cause as a no doubt disgruntled fan but just a warning. Of your three posts so far, two have been having a go at someone. That's not how we roll. Consider this a warning.
