What's people's opinion on Horwill's captaincy?

He seemed not have a good line of communication with Joubert and didn't really articulate his concerns about repeated Kiwi infringements very well. I'd have though this an area he'd have improved by now.

I'm not saying he should be demoted, but I'm wondering whether he's the best option long term. Thoughts?

Not great, but I can't think of an alternative out of the current squad. Maybe when Pocock is back (please hurry) we can burden him with the job.

While you're at it - have a look at about 59 mins.
We go into touch in a clust****.
the line of touch is outside the 22.
AB's take a "quick" throw - back to Cruden who - I reckon - kicks it straight into touch.
since the line of touch is outside the 22 I dont think it matters that the throw may have taken place from behind the 22.
right or wrong?

YES! I was sure i didnt imagine it! They threw the ball in from outside the 22 and kicked it out on the full... should have been brought back for a Wobbly lineout no? It seems the ABs really are above the law

And the Wallaby Captain and VC were not paying attention or had just given up to not point it out.
I am questioning Horwill's Captaincy, as more than a few Qlders were for the Reds this year. Only thing is what other options are there? Mowen is the only one who springs to mind and I am not sure if he is playing well enough to be an automatic starter, though I do believe he is still some way in front of the other fit options.

Front row were OK, hower I cant help but feel Benny Alexander is not a long term solution at 3.

Horwill hasn't come along as hoped. I wonder if previous injuries have taken their toll? Simmons on the other hand played his best match in a wallaby jersey.

Hooper was best on ground, while the other two back rowers were nonexistent. Mowen needs to go back to 6 and, gulp, McCalman given another shot at 8. Can't wait for Higgers to come back.

Halves were poor, save for Genia's scintillating try. Genia's needs to move the ball out sooner. Probably worth persisting with for the return leg.

Centres were good and combined well. No changes there. Kuridrani stays on the bench after a mixed cameo.

Mogg was, as feared, out of his depth. JOC (James O'Connor) looked great coming into the line at 15, however the game was very loose by then and I'd rather see Folau moved there. Folau needs to touch the ball more. JOC (James O'Connor) Still to have a roving commission at 11 (in attack only...). Cummins to the vacant wing to keep it warm until Speight arrives.

I don't see how a new captain is going to improve our reaction to turnovers or improve our breakdown accuracy or get us over the gain line any easier.

Please let me now, I look forward to being enlightened

Sack the captain?
Do you people really think he is the problem or is he just an easy target....

Imagine how stupid the wallabies would look to world rugby if the new coach sacked his captain after one game. It's not like there is even a viable alternative FFS...

Again.... Point.

However this does not mean that it is not up for discussion.

Really, we have 3-4 auto-picks, in my opinion.
Genia - not really a great captain, needs to focus on his game as much as possible.
Moore - can't say I've seen his captaincy material.
AAC (Adam Ashley-Cooper) - ditto for Moore
Horwill - 'nuff said.

Mowen might be the best captain in the squad, but he needs to establish himself as an incumbent, which he has not done yet.

Agreed, I wish we had more than 3-4 auto picks and even they may be debatable to some.

Same old Wallabies in some ways. Did some things really well and some really poorly but a balanced performance still evades them. Breakdown work was shithouse. Ball carrying improved. Lineout very good, scrum good. To lateral in attack.

To'omua: Not right to be too critical of a debut player and his faults are not hard to rectify. Needs to engage defenders by taking it to the line before distributing. He starts again next week in my view.

Izzy: Was shut out of this game to a degree. He and Savea both quiet and cancelled each other out. Needs to go on the hunt for work in this case.

Mogg: Not a great game. His fantastic kicking game went missing and he looked rushed under pressure. More game time from the bench may be needed just to help him settle. He will improve.

Simmons: Some people should try watching the game in front of them rather than reverting back to old rhetoric. He gave the best line out performance we have seen from a Wallaby this year by a long shot. You don't need stats to see he shouldered a lot of work load in hitting the ball up. It was only he and Moore that we doing it at pace and the made yards for it. He was also had. His breakdown work was as inaccurate as the other forwards. I think he actually outplayed Horwill in this game TBH.

JOC (James O'Connor): Horrible in defence. Trust your team mates or piss off is all I can say. What he did well was go looking for work in attack. He did what we needed Izzy to do.

Lilo: Tough night being put under excessive pressure by his 10 in To'omua. He sparked acually when Quade came on. Got opportunity and ran with intent. Very effective.

AAC (Adam Ashley-Cooper): Played well. Same rhetoric about his distribution. His Tahs season has debunked this talk and the break can be but down to an isolated era of misjudgment. Played his usual hard running game.

Genia: Off his game. Slow service and should of shouldered some more burden when the kicking game was off.

MMM: Not even close to the physicality that we have come to love from this bloke.

Mowen: Ineffective. Compared to what was an outstanding Lions series I think he was disapointing. Will have contenders like Shatz closing the gap after that. Simmons playing well nullified the lineout calling leverage he has in selection.

Would require some positional shifting but I think maybe Lilo or To'omua shifted back to 15 and Quade into 10.

That is my thoughts.

As an aside, someone posted that they were selling Gold seats @ 1/2 price.
I jumped in and took the family.
At the price I paid, the seats were ok given this is the biggest match of the year.
At $180 it would be an absolute ripoff.
How much we're diamond and platinum tickets?
Mr Pulver, when you can't sellout the biggest game of the year, even when you sell tickets at 1/2 price.
There is something wrong with your pricing or your product, time is up on strategic thinking.
How about some strategic doing?

Struggle to see how the ARU are at fault for not selling out the ground.

Fact is all of the once-a-year fans who normally come to the Bledisloe already spent their cash on the Lions (and watched us get flogged, ruining whatever chance we had of getting them back again).

68,000 was not bad in the end. You'd hope for more, but I can understand why the number was what it was.

Was I the only one who thot QC (Quade Cooper) shit the bed again? Bombed a try, missed a cpl of tackles and fluffed a kick off, not bad for a 15 min cameo.

You guys were a 98% team. Just missing the last 2%. Scoring 29 points is usually enough to win a test, but that 2%, be it a loose ball out of a ruck, ball not hooked in a scrum, or positional error in defence, cost you 47.

I'd sack Mogg, move Folau back and bring in somebody else.

I also don't think it looks like the team has much respect for JOC (James O'Connor) and vice versa. I dunno what to do there.

I would like to see Alan Jones brought in as a Coaching Director Roll. Jones coached the Australian team for 4 years with 86 victories from 102 matches including 23 victories in 30 Tests.[15] When he took the team on it included Mark Ella, and it soon recruited Peter FitzSimons and James Black, both Manly players, and Nick Farr-Jones. Also in 1984, Australia's national team, the Wallabies, won the Grand Slam victories over England, Ireland, Wales and Scotland, and a Barbarians side made up of the best players of those countries and France.
In 1985, Jones was awarded Coach of the Year from the Confederation of Australian Sport.[7]
The 1986 Bledisloe Cup victory against New Zealand in New Zealand was the first time that had been achieved in 39 years. He has Proven himself as someone the ARU should have.

Is that you, Alan?

Crock of shit.
50% of the BIL crowd were pommie tourists.
Subtract corporates and members, how many once a year supporters does that leave?
Of the 68,000 how many were paying customers?
So yeah,if the state of the game is such, they can't sellout a Bled cup ,then absolutely the ARU needs to seriously look at what they are doing.

Hey fp - did you see how Mowen struggled with that channel 1 ball that let A B Smith steal it from behind Genia.
Ahhhh the old days!

I said it after the soup final - Mowen struggled at the back of the scrum and it concerned me going into the wallabies

He also doesn't have the game to be the physical imposing back rower - we need a bloke that can do this to complement him, so he can concentrate on being the line out general and second on baller/grafter role.

I see McCalman as being more effective at the scrum base, but maybe Link is onto something going forward with Hooper.
