It's been a pretty dispiriting week, only made better by seeing my club side Uni win last weekend at Baysie. Other than that it's a bit depressing in Force-land.

Can it get any worse at the Force?

I suppose they could appoint Eddie Jones as their coach so yes I suppose it could get worse!

Hope they get something sorted out quickly for the sake of the players who must be very concerned about the immediate future.

Yeah, where to from here? The truth is we seem to be nowhere right now.

Still, it's always darkest before the dawn or some bollocks like that.

It's ok guys, SNK and the saffa journeymen will pull the team up by the boot laces and all will come good.

Chin up Force supporters. If Poey goes he goes, he goes. As good as he is, one bloke does not make a team. As WJ alluded to, if a coach isn't commited to the cause he is better off not being there.

As a team the Force have some strong attributes but seem unsure on how they want to capitalise on them. Some serious bad luck has not helped with this. Big name coaches and players all get their start somwhere so what is to say the next big name in Rugby will not rise out of the Force in 2013? I would love the Force to build something with a long term focuss in mind that will put WA rugby on the map as a strong player in building the code nationally.

In all seriousness, no point trying to sign people who dont want to be there. Force might as well stick with Blake or offer the job to Louden. If you can't sign a top coach you might as well try and develop one.

Agree totally. We want someone who is 100% committed to the task. If Cheika didn't really want to do it then we are better off without him.

Eddie Jones would not be the worse of all solutions, after all he's won a S12 title before (the only other two in Australia are Nucifora and Link) - and he has coached the Wobblies - although his stint in QLD was not the best.

IMHO re: the Force situation - they focus more on building success rather than trying to buy it. I agree that champion players help in achieving that, but the franchise still has to do the hard work to build a long-term culture of success.

I would rather the players try and coach themselves than getting Eddie Jones involved. He's a good consultant when a strong coach is in charge (like the White-led Boks), but terrible as a head coach. He may have won a Super rugby title, but the way he destroyed forward play as Wallaby coach should disqualify him from consideration ever again. He wasn't a roaring success at the Reds, was he?

It rather beggars belief doesn't it. I honestly don't know what plan B is or should be now.

There seem to be some self destructive forces (no pun intended) at play here. To be honest, I believe that having Pocock & other senior players at the Force involved in recruiting coach and players is madness - it is destabilising and leaves whoever takes on the coach role at the mercy of these players. This is what was happening at the Brums for a number of years, and to a certain degree, at the Tahs as well.
Players play, coaches coach. The two don't mix.

Why would the Force want Foley? His strength is forward coaching but Nick Styles has done a fantastic job with the Force forwards.

coincidentally RugbyWA also re-signed Stiles only a few weeks back

It is what it is

Does Rugby WA understand the massive difference in the skill sets required between a 'good forward's coach' - Foley?, and a 'great head coach'?

There's a lot to be said for that approach. Sure, give the players some ownership but the buck stops with the coach. They are much more likely to have their necks on the chopping block. They need to have both the responsibility and the authority to make the calls. No different from any other organisation in that respect.

Wholeheartedly agree Ghibli!

I have thought the notion of player power alot over the past few months. It seems the common trend in Australian Rugby these days that you retain a list of senior players for a reasonable time. During that time the players grow in stature and have this perceived sense of entitlement.CEOs and those in charge of contracting across all provinces need to start manning up, they are scared that their reputation will be hurt when they lose a star and so they bend over to ensure that they keep their "star players".

Player Power certainly happened at the Brumbies, it has appeared to happen at the Tahs, and the dark ugly days of the Reds was also littered with tales of player power.

It seems that when the cycle of player power is broken those teams become successful, Reds 2010/2012 and Brumbies 2012.

So whilst it might seem doom and gloom for the Force, if the changes are such that the dynamics within the organisation changes so that the Administration controls the business, the coaches coach and the players work hard and follow the team plan then maybe all is not lost for the medium term future of the Force.
