Sais is great. Goosen is Probly one of the better 10s in super rugby this year. He is absolutely brilliant and the. I think 2nd an 3rd are very close. This is a good signing. Who the hell do people want the force to sign? It seams unless we signed Dan carter or cruden people here going to say its a waste.

Isn't pocock being consulted with these decisions. If so, I can't see a problem so far. Maybe there is a big about announcement coming with a great 12 being signed.

Sias is the kind of guy we can build a team around. He isn't going to play for the bok's anytime soon. So we wont have to worry about fatigue or injuries in test rugby. Also, he is only 23 so he has time to develop his own game at the Force. (Not to mention he is a talented player already).

I'd rather this than us buying Quade Cooper, who will always have other priorities.

Seems he has been confirmed as the developing player.

Sias is a very, very good player. He was first choice at the Cheetahs until the freakishly talented Goosen came on the scene.

His confidence was severely dented because of being dropped much so thta it adversely affected his play when Goosen got injured. But he has been playing from the bench and I have no doubt he will start again soon for the Cheetahs. He can play as was evident in last year's tournament.

He is a soolid, dependable player.

God knows you need a guy who is fit of body and mind at 10 in Perth with some skills to boot. Ebersohn to me looks like a bloody good signing for you lot. And here is the reality, money or no money, you are not going to get a first tier international 10 to join the Force.

You've got yourself a deal ;)

Sias definitely has potential, I just worry that that he has been overtaken at 10 in one of the lowest performing franchises in Super rugby. Do love the potential though if paired with a good coach.

By the most talented 10 to come on the scene in South Africa in more than 20 years.

Perfect. Young guy, ambitious but already there or thereabouts, point to prove. Good fit, I think.

I've only seen sias play a few times, but in all the games I watched, he was the type of guy who would look a million dollars and then look rubbish on the next play.

If he was 18 or 19 you would expect that, but he is 23 so it is a bit worrying.

But I hope he comes good for the force, and hopefully in a season or two we will be talking about how he has been dropped for a local young flyhalf named Godwin!

Dunno about Sias, he looked very talented but fade away this year. Expect his boet Robert may follow. Find it a bit strange that he did not went the Kings route. Big punter of the ball.

Cheetahs fly-half Sias Ebersohn has agreed to join the Force on a two-year foreign developing player contract.
The 23-year-old is a former South African U20 representative and has been playing Super Rugby for the Cheetahs since 2010.
However, he has now decided that a new challenge is in order and will be heading to Perth, subject to the deal's approval by the Australian Rugby Union.
Crucially, under the foreign developing player contract, Ebersohn will have to show potential to play for the Wallabies in the future in order for the deal to go through.
"Following our meeting, Sias has agreed to accept our offer to be the foreign developing player for the Emirates Western Force in the 2013 season," RugbyWA CEO Vern Reid told theForce's official website.
"The agreement is now before the Australian Rugby Union as they need to approve any foreign developing player contracts under the contracting guidelines.
"In our view, Sias has great potential to make a significant impact for the Emirates Western Force in the Super Rugby competition and at an international level and for the past couple of seasons has been touted as a future Springbok," added Reid.
"We are delighted he has accepted the offer to play for the Emirates Western Force and look forward to welcoming him into the programme."
Force skipper David Pocock expressed his delight at the franchise's success in securing the talented number ten's services.
"I met with Sias when we were in Bloemfontein and he was excited about the prospect of moving to Perth," said Pocock.
"We've been watching him for a while and he is a very skilful player and will bring some much needed energy and experience to that position.
"I'm sure he will fit in well with the playing group at the Emirates Western Force and will enjoy his time in Perth."

I would love to know how true the "David Pocock is considering moving to Canberra" rumors are.

He obviously needs to keep his options open, but I just don't think he will go. The Force support his charity by doing the Jersey auction each year and he is 5 hours closer to his Charity work in Zim. Plus he seems like too nice a guy. But I guess you can't ignore that he is driven and hungry for success.

It sounds horrible but watching the phoenix of the Reds and Brumbies rise out of the ashes, Pocock leaving might be the Nadir the WARU need to kick them into survival mode and get serious.

Sias reasons for leaving the Cheetahs
Supersport
With a tinge of bitterness in his voice, Cheetahs flyhalf Sias Ebersohn said he was “heartbroken” at having to leave Bloemfontein but simply had no choice.
Ebersohn signed for the Western Force for two years as their “overseas developing player” from 2013 after Ebersohn had a disappointing season with the Bloemfontein side where he was born and raised.
The 23-year old will see out the Absa Currie Cup season, before heading to Perth to try his hand as their first-choice flyhalf for the season.
After missing a crucial kick against the Highlanders in Bloemfontein, Ebersohn lost confidence and was almost immediately dropped after the team’s loss against the Stormers a fortnight later.
This played a major part in his decision to move, as he felt he was not being supported by team management and in particular coach Naka Drotske.
Speaking to Bloemfontein radio station OFM, Ebersohn said he decided on the move as Bloemfontein was “no longer the solution to moving forward in my career.”
“I’m sad, because I’ve spent all 23 years in Bloemfontein and I had to make a decision after it became apparent Bloemfontein was not the solution,” Ebersohn told OFM.
“I waited a long time for my chance at the Cheetahs and then suddenly (Johan) Goosen was on the scene and when he got injured, I was suddenly replaced by Riaan Smit – In my three years at the franchise I never competed with Riaan for a place and it seems that the chances that other players are given, were never given to me. Its sad but at some point you have to look at yourself.”
Ebersohn said he bore no grudges but said he had played at the best of his ability and the chances he was promised never materialized.
“It isn’t in my hands. I am not the coach and it was always Naka’s decision. As a player I will always give my best and this move won’t influence the way I play. It is disappointing to leave, especially when you realise they aren’t interested in you.
“I had high expectations of the season, and things didn’t always go as I wanted them to go. But there were promises of playing time made that never materialized. Goosen had a good season and I am a player who plays not for money, but rather to enjoy the game. You can never get better unless you are backed and you improve on the field. Luckily this lesson has happened early in my career and I can learn from it.”
Ebersohn admits he never played enough, but drew a parallel with Bok incumbent Morne Steyn for the way the Bulls backed him when he wasn’t playing well.
“Morne has had – by his standards – one of the poorest kicking seasons of his career but he still plays and the team still backs him. I never played enough to get my selfconfidence on a high and without those opportunities, you get rusty, you get “vrot”. You need to play to keep in form.”
Ebersohn praised backline coach Hawies Fourie for his contribution in his development, but again hinted at a fallout with Drotske.
“The Force approached me and I never spoke to them first. They said they think I am a good player and they want me as their No 1 flyhalf. What player in my position wouldn’t grab that opportunity. It’s heartbreaking that I had to make that decision but it is a career move. I’m not upset with the Cheetahs,” Ebersohn added.
“I learnt a lot in my time here, and not just on the field, but life lessons as well, especially from Hawies. My time here was good but there were many decisions that should have gone my way, many team selections that went against me.”
Ebersohn said he believed the change would do him good.
“There has been a lot said about me and what I am and who I am and it will be nice to get away from the criticism and start fresh. Its’ not nice when ugly things are said about you. A decision has been made, and if the Cheetahs thought I had a role to play, then they wouldn’t have let me go.”
Drotske earlier confirmed Ebersohn’s departure in a statement and wished him well.
"After long negotiations with Sias Ebersohn’ s agent Gerrie Swart, the Free State Cheetahs (Pty) Ltd. and I have decided to release Sias of his 2013 contract with the Cheetahs," said Drotske.
"Sias wanted more exposure and felt that the Western Force offered him a step in the right direction for him as a player to accomplish his goals. We felt that we would not stand in his way and will release him from his 2013 contract. Sias will leave the Toyota Free State Cheetahs after the 2012 Absa Currie Cup to join the Western Force. We wish him the best of luck for his future and want to thank him for what he has meant for Cheetah rugby. "
The Force confirmed the announcement and said captain David Pocock had helped sway Ebersohn after the team’s recent clash in Bloemfontein.
RugbyWA chief executive Vern Reid confirmed as much in a statement.
"Following our meeting, Sias has agreed to accept our offer to be the foreign developing player for the Western Force in the 2013 season," Reid said.
"The agreement is now before the Australian Rugby Union as they need to approve any foreign developing player contracts under the contracting guidelines.
"Foreign developing players are signed on a two-year contract with a Super Rugby franchise and must exhibit potential to play for the Wallabies to be approved by the ARU.
"In our view, Sias has great potential to make a significant impact for the Western Force in the Super Rugby competition and at an international level and for the past couple of seasons has been touted as a future Springbok."

Good pick up by the Force especially with Sias coming onto the roster as the development player. He will enjoy his time in Perth and get plenty of playing time to prove his detractors wrong. I look forward to cheering him on in 2013.

He will be as mad as a cut snake, watch out Super rugby.

As someone mentioned in the TWF forum, now that they've signed Ebersohn, the Force should be targeting Tapuai or Harris for the 12 spot. I think this backline would be pretty handy, with a few young guns just starting to hit their straps:

10 - Ebersohn
11 - Honey Badger
12 - Harris or Tapuai*
13 - Tupou
14 - Wara
15 - Mafi
(* - wishful thinking...)

Combined with an already established forward pack, and they could be fairly threatening.

I reckon they should also have a crack at Robert Ebersohn- that guy is a real goer.
he would have to then be the marquee signing. Not sure about that as he is a 13 I think with will and nick there already not really what we need.

So where does Seymour play? Bennetts could play 12, I reckon.

They might have a go at seral as his time would be up at the tahs he already has a combination going with sais from their time at the cheetahs.
