Will Brock ,despite having a good tour of Samoa, wasn't offered a spot.He has now gone to England.
A local talent overlooked

I never thought he was a standout when I saw him in Sydney club rugby. Goodish only.

With the Four Horsemen still available for 3 backrow spots at the Force it's probably a good idea for Will to look elsewhere,

Absolutely. The sooner he emerges as this all the better for the Force. While the likes of Keiran Longbottom have been around for a few seasons now (but in Longbottoms case only really beginning to mature now) a player emerging in such a pivotal role in the Force strucutre will show a lot of the emerging talent (and there is a swathe of talent beginning to appear particularly in and around the U15/16s level) that you can make it as a professional from within WA.

You can factor in the Saffas, you can call in the Kiwi shearers, but the take home is that there are plenty of young blokes with shed-loads of talent.

They are hard. Will be world-class.

Can't wait...

New Western Force gear by Kooga. Home and away kit both changed. Looks good.

I would really love for the Brumbies to adopt a new kit to go with what is essentially a brand new team (with new sponsor TBA)...

Unfortunately we might have to wait another season or two...

This would be 22 if they were to play on the weekend. Forward pack looks to be pretty strong, suprisingly due to the inclusion of Ma'afu

1- Cowan
2-Charles
3- Ma'afu
4- Wykes
5- Sharpe (c)
6- Hodgson
7- Pocock (vc)
8- McCalman
9- Sheehan
10- Stannard
11-Cummins
12- Stanley
13- Dellit
14- Nalaga
15- Shepherd

Bench: Whittaker, Longbottom, Lynn, Brown, Swanepoel, Ripia, Sidey/Mafi

Forward pack looks very good, think the back-line is still about 3 years from their prime. JOC (James O'Connor) would have made it look a lot stronger but beggars can't be choosers, who is captain? Sharpe?

Wasn't the halfback turner supposed to be the next big thing before he was injured?

Surprised they didn't hang onto swanepoel. He's one that slipped through the cracks i guess. I wonder if the saders will sign him up?

The starting backline isn't too bad, some quality players, but no "Superstars" (ie: Beale, O'Connor, Digby, Quade ect) will make it hard for them. Lack of depth in the backs aswell. Also I didn't realise Swanepoel wasn't resigned, I thought he looked promising at the end of last season.

Lack of a superstar in the backs may not be such a bad thing - I remember when the reds started to 'come good' none of them were considered superstars but look at them now. Rather than expect one player to come up with the miracle play (as had been expected of JOC (James O'Connor)) I think the indiviuals in the Force backs have the potential to get the job done and I'm looking forward to seeing if RG can get them to gel into an effective unit.

Shame about Swanepoel but in a squad of 30 two specialist scum-halves is probably enough and Stannard could back up as a 9 if needed.

I agree with the comment about Sharpe standing down from the captaincy next year and letting Pocock take over with Sharpe there to mentor him.

This is supposed to be a pic of the new Force jersey. Not wanting to work. Anyway. It's on the homepage of the RugbyWA site. I quite like it.

Turner is a terrific player but hasn't had a lot of chances. He looked great at the beginning of the 2010 season when he got on the park but he did his ACL in the IRB U/20 tournament not long after that, then had to have a 2nd operation when he injured it again before the 2011 season. Turner's fitness must be dodgy but he is contracted for 2012; so the Force are probably taking a punt.

He's a better player than Swanepoel on his best day though I thought Swannie had a good couple of games pairing with Stannard at 10 when Sheehan was out at the end of last season.

Turner is the best school scrummie I saw in the last 10 years and better than Genia, at least when I saw both players in their different school years. Whilst that doesn't mean a lot now, since he left school 3 years ago, it indicates a bit of natural talent.

Not quite to the point but I thought that Stannard was disappointing at scrumhalf in the Shute Shield in Sydney when I saw him after the S15. The best rugby I have seen him play is being the quarterback for the Oz 7s team and at 10 for the Force in the games with Swannie at 9, just mentioned.

Force jersey innovation - Twitter handles included for promotional purposes or for kit man to keep track of laundry?
