Probably best to post in this thread since people who saw the game are here...

does anyone know how Tilse/Fitzpatrick/O'Connor/McKibbin/Halangahu went?

Especially interested in McKibbin as I reckon he has a massive shot at the reserve 9 spot for NSW...

McKibbin went OK and is a better player than Holmes anyway; though the fact that he played in this game and not Holmes is not a good look.

Didn't notice Tilse at all to be honest but it was very bloody hot and he is a big unit. Fitzy was OK but didn't shine. JOC (James O'Connor) wasn't electric until he was in a tight spot and wriggling away from tacklers when he was like Brer Rabbit. If you're talking about Pat O'Connor: he didn't take my eye - but he seldom does.

Hangers was the best of them but he was moving a bit of a rabble around the park and he was pushing it uphill.

It was good to see senior players like David Pocock running water for the Force A side. The team did look very tight knit.

Anybody got a bit of a rant about Pheonix Battye in them? Looking at his profile he looks to have an impressive frame but does he use it. Would be keen for somebody in the know how to give me a run down.

cheers

As I wrote on the last page:

• 5. Battye was a good surprise. I hadn't seen much of him before and thought he was a bit of a pussycat when I did, but the big unit played a heavy game and was active for a huge bloke.

In the context of a situation where his ball was not the greatest and playing with many guys not in the Tahs set up, I thought Hangers went as well as could be expected. He and some of the other backs weren't on the same page though.

Shep gets off (relatively) unscathed. $15,000 fine and two match suspended ban.

Shepherd punished for drink driving

Western Force back Cameron Shepherd has been fined $15,000 and handed a two-match suspended ban after he was charged with drink driving in December last year.

Shepherd appeared before an Australian Rugby Union (ARU) tribunal in Sydney on Monday night charged with breaching their code of conduct.

It followed Shepherd's conviction in Perth's Magistrates Court last week for driving under the influence and driving whilst suspended in December, 2010.

The three man tribunal of Barrister Dominic Villa, ARU Integrity Manager Phil Thomson and retired District Court Judge Robert Viol handed down the penalties.

Shepherd will also be required to undergo further counselling with the support of the ARU and Force.

I'd like to see Shep mount a test case against the ARU. It drives me insane that someone can be penalised in their chosen profession for an off field indiscretion. I realise that he has signed a contract which stipulates certain behavioural standards, but considering they are the only employer in Australia he effectively is forced to sign a contract under duress.

Football players should not be forced to be role models.

1st question, why not?

2nd question, why would you not want to be?

I don't even know who they are role models to? Young kids? Well when I was kid I sure had heroes of the game that you'd probably try to emulate in the backyard but at that age you don't read the papers, you don't know or care what they do off the field. I can't understand the media scrutiny of sports stars personally. No one really cares what they do in their own time - just what they do on the field. Yeah yeah, sponsors won't like it... well that's bs - are you not going to buy a sponsor's service/product but they are affiliated with someone who does stupid things when they're drunk? Just care about the success of the field ffs.

High profile employees of public facing businesses are invariably subject to these kinds of rules. Off-field shenanigans can damage an employer's business. Why should sportsmen be exempt?

Additionally on top of been a role model the are a representative of a company, professional sporting teams are quintessentially companies and players are there representatives.. When a player plays up or commits a crime, it can often directly impact on the bottom line of the company/club, financial punishment for such indiscretions is a just repercussion.

So what the hell is a two match ban 12 month suspension. Does that mean he can't play for 2 wallaby games?

Go the force!!!!

It's a suspended penalty. It wont be applied unless he has another indiscretion. So ATM he only has to pay the fine. If he does anything else, he will have to suffer the 2 match suspension in addition to any other penalties.
The threat of the suspension will last 12 months.

Why is it even public what he did?

Why is it even public what he did?

Because he is high profile. He is very well paid to be in the public spotlight. He is one of the more recognisable faces of the Force.
It happens when CEOs muck about - consider the case against the David Jones CEO for sexual harrassment last year. He lost his job over that.

I think he has been let off lightly.

Cameron Shepherd rap sheet:

2005 - placed on a two-year good behaviour bond for kicking the car outside Sydney’s Star City casino, causing more than $4000 damage, after drinking heavily at a friend’s 21st birthday party. He apologised, said he would pay for the damage and agreed to help the ARU and the players’ association with their drug and alcohol courses and career training schemes.

2008 - licence suspended due to an undisclosed driving offence.

2010 - convicted by the courts of driving while his licence was suspended, fined $400 and licence suspended for a further nine months. The Force also hit him with a five-figure fine and ordered him to seek counselling.

2011 - charged by the courts with drink driving and driving with a suspended licence in December 2010, fined $2400 and banned from driving for 12 months. Fined $15,000 by the ARU and handed a two-match suspended ban. He will also be required to undergo further counselling with the support of the ARU and Force.

I have long admired his running and tryscoring abilities but enough is enough. The guy is a dick head and damn lucky not to be given weekend detention or the like. The bold bits are a real concern as the counselling is obviously not working.

A great player he may be but I hope to never hear my sons pretending to be Cameron Shepherd while running around in the backyard.

Rant over and info going straight to the ruggapedia.

He does seem to be enjoying the Perth social lifestyle, maybe he should find a pub near his home and as he won't be driving for a while, a cab charge card
