Mungoesque behaviour then. If he were an AFL player with the Eagles or Dockers then he would probably get off with a warning or community service but being a rah rah will probably get a 3month sentence, possible suspended.

Doubt he will go to jail. Serious offence nonetheless and something that needs to be dealt with swiftly.

That's bullshit calling it "mungoesque". Clearly Rugby players do this type of shit too, you could more accurately pinpoint the behaviour to young, cashed up people who are routinely told how great they are.

Interesting to see McCalman is being touted as a replacement for Sharpe in the 2nd row, at least temporary.

I'd be interested to see how a forward pack of Cowan, Whittaker, Fairbrother, McCalman, Wykes, Hodgson, Pocock and Brown (in that order) would go at Super level.

All good fine players as far as Super rugby goes but all very small, I'd like to see if this kind of line-up could be competitive.

It will be an interesting one.

The Reds have a strong lineout (Horwill, Humphries and Simmons all there for lock) but the scrum is average and the back rows are mobile but not really there for the rucks.

So I would almost consider going for McCalman and Hocking (asking Hocking to stand up) at lock, with Hodgson, Pocock and Brown in the loose. Keep the ball in hand and rely on that loose trio to make sure we get a lot of ball. McCalman and Brown at the same time will mean plenty of ball runners too.

Give up with the lineout to some extent (and hope Hocking stands up).

Wallaby and Western Force star Cameron Shepherd faces having his lucrative Australian Rugby Union contract torn up after further convictions for driving offences.

In the Perth Magistrate's Court yesterday, Shepherd, 26, was fined $2400 and banned from driving for 12 months for driving with a blood alcohol reading in excess of .08 in December.

He will appear before the ARU's code of conduct tribunal on Monday accused of bringing the game into disrepute.

It has the power to end Shepherd's ARU contract, impose match bans or fine him.

Shepherd has jeopardised his lucrative private sponsorship deals and faces severe sanctions at the ARU hearing on Monday night.

The tribunal can impose a $15,000 fine, terminate his contract or suspend him from playing.

If the contract is torn up the talented fullback’s union future in Australia would be over.

He would have to move overseas to play or switch codes to rugby league if he wanted to remain in the country.

Western Force head coach Richard Graham said the issue had not been a distraction to pre-season training.

"From my point of view he's been outstanding in pre-season," Graham said.

"He's worked incredibly hard to put himself in contention for the Reds game (the Super season opener) and we'll continue to support him.

"Cameron would be the first person to admit that he did something silly. That's in the past and we're looking as a group to move forward.

"We're looking to support him through this period. We're focusing on rugby as an organisation at the moment."

I see ARU contract termination as a real possibility. The Union faces the prospect of huge losses this year with the absence of inbound Tests and would be desperately looking for any opportunity to reduce expenditure. Whether because of his very bad run of injuries or some other reason, the young bloke does not appear to be in the mix for national selection and thus would appear to be quite expendable.

On the other hand I think the Force would see him as a vital part of their Super 15 campaign. A likely scenario could well be loss of the ARU contract but continuation of his Force contract. The consequent huge reduction in income would make it likely that he would be looking for a quick release after the Super season to go to Europe or the Bermuda Triangle of Japanese rugby, never to be seen again.

Unfortunately we may not see this very talented player demonstrate his true potential.

If he goes through the season without injury I really think he can push for a bench spot for the wallabies. I hope he gets away with it or the force will really miss him. He is vital for us this year.

Bruce, while I hope that doesn't happen, I fear you could be on the money with that prediction. I've always liked Shep and he's been good for us here, but certain behaviour standards have to be enforced and as you say, money will be tight for the ARU. If this were a first offence, I think the authorities would be a little more lenient, but its not and he's probably done his dash now.

Bugger.

Yes, and if I had washboard abs and huge biceps I could pull a supermodel. But sadly that is just as likely to happen as Shep putting in an injury-free season. I really like the way he plays, but I can't see any reason to believe this season won't be any different from the last 5.

Have some bloody faith man. You might get a supermodel.

I don't see that the ARU would be willing to have such a liability anywhere near the wallabies. They've already got one in Cooper and Sheps would have to bring a mighty fine season to put pressure on Beale, Mitchell or JOC (James O'Connor) for a position. The bench might be available, but then he's competing with other known options (possibly Gits and Turner at this point). I just can't see him wearing the gold again, the ARU would be bananas to keep the contract. And we're very short on bananas.

43-5 win against the brumby runners for the force A side and 40-24 win against the barbarian side for the force

Western Force 40 - Australian Barbarians 24 (I think)

Their game was slightly cooler but not a lot because it was stinking hot. I must say the TG Milner ground was in tip top shape as it looked like a dustbowl when I was there last year.

The Force put up a good lead of 40-5 but were less effective as the reserves came on. To be fair the Baas were a scratch team of mostly Sydney club players with a few Tahs ring-ins. They obviously hadn't had many training sessions and the amateurs were blowing hard.

Some thoughts about the Force players:

• Kiwis 10. Ripia and 14 Smith were outstanding. Ripia kept mixing up his game during the match. He's a bossy bugger and got his players on the same song sheet. Smith was all class and speed and worked hard off the ball about being in the right position to support the ball carrier. A few times he was side by side with Mafi on the other wing and played they off each other.

Smith was often standing out wide and signalling for a cross kick when he was on the western side of the ground but they kept ignoring him. I wondered why he was doing this so much and the penny dropped – he wanted to be in the shade of the stand.

• 11. Mafi sliced up the Baas a few times and it's good to see him running around again without injury.

• 4. Wykes is looking more robust and playing like it than the last time I saw him in Sydney.

• 5. Battye was a good surprise. I hadn't seen much of him before and thought he was a bit of a pussycat when I did, but the big unit played a heavy game and was active for a huge bloke.

• 13. Inman looked good running straight through gaps, or with powerful leg drive after being grabbed, but it's a pity that he's not faster. Once the Baas 8. Perret made a break with Inman right behind him but he fell further behind before Perret scored. Perret is the fastest forward in Sydney but still, it wasn't a good look. Perhaps Inman's future is at 12. [Talking of which: Fairbanks was a bit anonymous.]

• I won't say much about the usual suspects who all played well: Brown, Hodgson, Sheehan, but McCalman looked outstanding. JOC (James O'Connor) looked like he could sidestep you in a phone box but geez his goal kicking wasn't that good.

It was good viewing except when I saw Growden with his flowered boardshorts and big white shirt failing to hide his big guts.
