We are lucky to have Bret ATM. He is going too need an injury free year. Standard should be interesting though.

Go the force!!!!

Does anyone know what Swanepoel is like?

Is he likely to step up and challenge for a bench spot over Chucky?

He is a lot like Sheehan, big agressive. He played 10 for Manly for most of the season - good player

to be honest, from the games i watched he looked a far better 10 then he did 9, thats not saying a whole lot though, his performances at 9 were pretty poor in the ones i watched(his passing game at least)..

I'd be surprised if James Stannard doesn't get the 9. I think he adds a bit more attack and speed than Sheehan and is at the peak of his powers right now. He turned down a French contract after the London 7's where the Aussies won and I think he knows it's now or never.

My beef with Brett is how much he gets into scraps with the opposition, rather like Tom Carter. I guess there's a certain amount of gobby half back you have to put up with, but Sheehan is worse than most.

I thought he was near the Force's best player at the start of last year, until he got wounded he was epic giving all he had to lift his pigs. Great competitor

Agreed mate. He was intense. A war pig. Turners future doesn't look good having knee problems at 20. It's a damn shame. It is was good too see a player coming through in wa.

Don't get me wrong, he's a real goer, but he's often sailing right up against that line between aggression and ill discipline. I'd just like to see him dial it back a hair.

As a Rats fan, watching Sheehan is bitter sweet. He's not necessarily our best player - that is McCabe; but he is our most valuable player.

I don't know when his forbears came to Oz but I wouldn't be surprised if there was a Sheehan at Vinegar Hill when the Irish convicts rebelled - or maybe there was one later at the Eureka Stockade. There is a strain of Irish insurgency in his blood and a few perverse drops of mulishness. Dissent comes naturally to him and referees love him not.

Trying to curb his fiery nature must be like pissing in the wind. What you see is what you get with Sheeno and you have to take the bad with the good.

Does the Sheehan manlove come from his SJC connections as well?

You are probably right Lee and I guess we have to make that calculation. I'm not sure its always in his favour.

Just one more comment about Shepherd - the guy had a suspended license, and obviously drove himself to somewhere where he could drink. Then tried to drive himself home drunk. The whole situation started because he illegally drove to begin with. Stupid on more than one level. Not being able to find a taxi is no excuse when he's already driving on a suspended license.

Big shame about Turner. I'll say it: I think he was rushed back. He wasn't expected back till later in the S15 tournament, yet somehow the Force medical staff had him ready for trials. The sad part will be on two levels for the kid: the long term psychological damage (it will take ages for his confidence to return, for starters), and his running speed. For those that followed league, think Ben Ikin. Two ACLs in a row basically ended his career - he was a shadow of the player he was before the injuries, and ran at about 1/3 of the pace. Hope Turner fairs better than Ikin did.

I think Stannard will get plenty of time to prove himself this year off the bench.

Some people rated Swanepoel a better halfback than Hamlin back in Queensland schools, but Hamlin had the bonus of playing with To'omua at BSHS. Hamlin seems to have slipped by the wayside - wasn't he cut from the Brumbies Academy a while ago? Whether either one was better or not, sadly I think that Swanepoel at 9 is a bit of a step down from both Sheehan and Stannard. Could've sworn that Swanepoel was cut from the Force's Academy a while ago, but was reinstated due to injuries.
