At Carter I would back Carter any day of the week. I don't think he could handle Cooper's footwork going around Carter. The Tahs would be better in this situation swapping Carter and Horne in defence.

I've seen a similar discussion before and most agree that as far as rugby is concerned, speed over 40 meters is the real measure on a footy field. Davies looks to have that in the bag easily, but I would love to see other rugby players times. The Reds have a number of gasmen apart from Rocket, like Morahan, Toua and Shipperley, and there is a kid in the academy, Feldsman I think, who might be the quickest of all.

Be interesting to see who the various speedsters around the franchises are.

Much discussion on speed without any mention of Li'l Robbie Coleman (who didn't crack the Brumbies 28 in Super Media Guide) and Frankie Fainfo???

The Tahs should still be overwhelming favourites at scrum time, the reality is that it was the first time playing together last weekend for the Reds front row, the Tahs have a avantage in this area.

Sekope Kepu alone has the same number of Super Rugby caps as Slipper and Daley combined..

First I said I wanted Holmes over Daley and second I am not so sure Robinson would have his way with Slipper so I think Kepu certainly won't. I could not give a stuff how many Super Rugby caps Kepu has, the reality is that Slipper has faced some the best scrummagers in world rugby in the last six months. That experience is priceless. As I said in my original post I think we will see parity in the scrums. By all means talk the Tahs up though. I think under dog status is a good place for the Reds to be.

alright, no need to get over excited, im just saying inexperience definitely counts, it was obvious after watching the Reds scrum against the Force that they need more time together to really find there groove. You just cant ignore the fact that these guys have only every played together once.

Was anyone else as surprised by B.Robinson's physique as I was? The guy did not look like an athlete as all.

He played as well as anyone could ask from a reserve flanker but still, he looked out of place in a Super rugby game.

Here's what happened to the last so called tough man who thought that..

And Slipper has more international caps that Kepu and Daley combined..

thanks, inherently the point of my post is that the Reds front row has only played one super rugby game together..

I raised the topic of Super Caps as a better measure of how many games Kepu has had to play with the other frontrowers at the tahs.

If Cooper steps inside Carter he is just going to run into Barnes or Waugh. No luck there. He needs to commit defenders and offload.

More inside balls to Ioane and the like, as well as long wide balls to Hynes and Davies.

NSWRU Media Release said:
Tahs unchanged for Templeton Cup clash

The HSBC Waratahs will field an unchanged line-up on Saturday night as it prepares for its first home game of the 2011 Super Rugby season against the Queensland Reds at ANZ Stadium.

The team which won its opening round encounter against the Melbourne Rebels last Friday will be defending the Templeton Cup which has been contested between the two sides since 2000. Queensland were victorious in the first five Templeton Cup clashes, however NSW won the trophy in 2005 and has held onto it ever since.

The match coincides with Rugby Relief, a fundraising initiative of the HSBC Waratahs aiming to raise $100,000 for victims of the Queensland floods.

Head Coach Chris Hickey said he felt no need to change the team which performed strongly in the opening round in Melbourne.

“We had a look at the individual performances, the overall team performance and the form of the players in the HSBC Junior Waratahs and we found no reason to make any changes ahead of Saturday’s match,” said Hickey. “There are still things to work on from the Melbourne game, but everyone who took the field deserves the opportunity to maintain their place in the side.

“We were lucky enough to come through the match largely unscathed so there were no injury issues determining selection, and the players who are currently out aren’t in a position to come back yet so those decisions were a lot easier.”

Hickey said he expects this weekend’s clash to live up to all expectations, particularly after the performances of both teams in 2010.

“Last year was a memorable Templeton Cup clash and I don’t think this year will be any different,” said Hickey. “There was a lot of passion, almost 60 points scored and the game wasn’t decided until the 80th minute.

“We want to see a huge crowd at ANZ Stadium for the clash and want everyone to get right behind the Tahs because we really need everyone’s support.”

As part of the Rugby Relief fundraising initiative, some of the 2500 schools Rugby players involved in the pre-match march past will collect donations for the Queensland Premier’s Disaster Relief Appeal.

A $27,000 contribution from the HSBC Waratahs Super Rugby squad has kick-started the appeal, while proceeds from the sale of Rugby Relief merchandise and souvenir programs will go straight to the cause.

Anyone know what the weather will be like in Sydney? That could have a bearing on tactics and team composition.

The game will be won in the forwards but hopefully we get to see some of the razzle dazzle that both backlines are capable of.

Go the Reds!!

TPN had one throw go wayward and a total of two errors last week. I think he is going to be OK.
