Wow - congrats to the Rebels.

Folau played well against the Reds and shit against the Rebels. What is going on ???

Said it before but the dog's barking just got louder for Gibson.

Tahs missed Beale bigtime

And Horne in defense. Not that the Rebs made many linebreaks, but he would have made the line a whole lot more solid.

Team to play the Brumbies in two weeks should be:

Robinson
TPN (hopefully)
Robertson
Dennis
Mumm
Dempsey
Hooper
Holloway
Phipps
Foley
Kellaway
Horwitz
Folau
Robinson
Beale

Res: Roach, Ryan, Ta'avao, Skelton/Lousi, Hanigan, Lucas, Carraro, Guildford

Dennis needs to improve. He's not producing the workrate nor the impact of last season. Skelton and Lousi are quite like for like and both need to improve.

BH, you wouldn't consider either of Kellaway or Monroe (maybe others in SS) in place of one or two of Mumm, Dennis, Skelton or Lousi? Think you'd get a more wholehearted effort from them than those who are playing now.

EDIT : I do like the thought of Hanigan in for Palu.

Lacking cohesion;
We haven't had the same 10.
We have a young number 12 who needs more time in SS.
Our 13 well I'm confused there as well - who is our first choice 13.
Wings - again messy selections.
Folau - how can you play attacking confident rugby with a maze of variations in front of you.

Is it Gibson?
Or is it a political group who have had short tunnel vision.

Cheers

Horwitz? The only way for a guy to grow into Super Rugby is to play Super Rugby, 10 years of SS isn't enough IMHO, the step up is too great. But so far he isn't a future test player, but who has a back up 12 that is?

Horne is our first choice 13

Wings? I thought Robinson was quite good
Guildford has a mare, but is a good player, dropped too much ball but had made the effort to be in support and some of the passes were a bit crap.

Folau? He had a difficult day but he will be fine

Gibson? Possibly trying to change too much too soon.

They are trying to play Kiwi rugby, but their skills don't seem to be matching their intent

No, I wouldn't.

There's literally no chance that a lock who has never trained with the team is going to be plucked from Shute Shield to play Super Rugby ahead of fit players who are part of the squad.

Maybe I'd look at starting Skelton or Lousi just to change the shape of the team a bit or maybe I'd just through Hanigan straight in there. Dennis and Mumm seem to be getting through a reasonable amount of work but aren't producing a strong impact together.

I noticed that Hanigan was one of the only players outside of the matchday 23 who warmed up with the team and was involved in lineouts etc. yesterday.

I don't really think the effort is terrible from the team. It's poor decision making and poor execution that is letting the side down badly.

The Tahs made so many mistakes when they had the ball and made lots of dumb decisions when they had good attacking opportunities or made a break. They had more than enough possession and opportunities to win that game.

Haven't said Horwitz needs 10 years, but he is not ready for Soup. In my eyes he was probably 3rd or 4th best 12 in last years SS. He maybe one these rock stars coming through school boy rugby doesn't grow.

I think Horwitz has shown enough to indicate he can play well at Super level.

Obviously the first week was a standout and we all got a bit too excited, but that's not uncommon.

From watching him on Sunday his passing is very solid, general skills are nice (the kick to Reece Robinson to set up our second try was a pearler), just needs a bit more confidence/ability in contact.

Definitely worth persisting with IMO.

It was sarcasm but I'm guessing a few of your recommendations are Manly- affiliated no doubt.

In all seriousness Horwitz was one of the standout players in Shute Shield and even NRC (moreso than the lauded Kellaway) so he deserves his opportunity but I'm not sure if he has the attributes to be more than a fringe Super rugby player as others have said.

Everyone looked like they were rushing passes a bit. If we'd had one player changing the angle instead of drifting, it would have yielded results.

Lindommer said there is a good team here, and he's mostly right. One more pass goes to hand, or one less silly dinky kick, and maybe we win that.

Horwitz wouldn't be in the starting XV and possibly not the matchday 23 if everyone was healthy.

He's a 21 year old the club seas as an excellent prospect that they want to invest time in. It would appear to me that he is developing well based on his improvement over the last couple of years.

It would be a concern if he was considered a key player now with everyone available in the squad but he isn't.

I think the time has come for thr youngsters. Let's face it, this season is gone, the worst they can do is lose, but at least we'll be building something, don't know what we're losing with guys who have lost interest.

I understand Beale will be available next game, bring him at 12, Stewart to 13, start Kellaway and bring Horwitz off the bench to try and get a bit of confidence back. Start Mumm & Lousi as locks, Hanigan on the bench, two Roobos as props. Send Skelton and Ta'avao to Shute Shield. What do we have to lose.

Then practice opposed running passing and catching all week, and demand perfection. You stay out here until you get it fucking right!!!!

Ta'avao was fine yesterday, Fatcat and he locked the scrum quite solidly

That's fair.

I'm still concerned about all Super Clubs picking rock stars out of school, but done eventuate.
Just to be a hypocrtit to myself I think the Tahs should have signed the Ala'alatoa's and Sio's straight out of school - but hey i have the luxury in hindsight.

Your Super Rugby squad is always a game of list management and that will vary somewhat depending on your results and whether you are pushing forward with a squad that is older than ideal to win a title or struggling and trying to accelerate a rebuilding phase by getting rid of some older players before you normally would.

Your squad should always be a mix of current stars, solid players that are ready to go right now and young up and comers that you think will bring you success in the future and have a high ceiling you can develop.

The Tahs potentially didn't promote enough younger players last year considering they thought (and generally were) a reasonable chance of winning the competition again.

They certainly didn't plan well for certain positions such as replacing Sekope Kepu at THP.

There's always going to be an amount of picking rockstars out of high school because there's a strong chance they won't remain available if you don't as another franchise will sign them. If you sign them with the thought that they aren't likely to be part of your matchday 23 for a couple of years at least then you are banking on the fact that you've correctly identified their potential and can make that happen by the time you need them.

Whether they take a punt on the right 18-20 year olds is another question but they certainly don't have the luxury of leaving them unsigned and waiting until they turn 22 and have a few years of club rugby under their belts.
