Waratahs 2023

I’ve never understood the criticism. Not a world player of the year by any measure. But a very reliable lock with all the fundamental skills. And a significant boost in the lock position over Douglas who as much as I like, is a year or two away at least.
Yeah, he’s not the greatest ball runner. But he runs an efficient lineout, must scrummage well. When he came to the Tahs I was amongst those waving my arms about and cursing at the sky. But he kind of proved me wrong. Do we need him? Probably not. But paired with a wrecking ball in the other lock spot, he fills a role.

I'd take Harry Hockings. Surely seeing all these 2nd rowers in the country dropping like flies would entice him for a gold jersey.
I have a feeling I heard both he and Lucas re-signed recently in deals to take them up to the 5 year qualification period, but it's not something I've seen confirmed anywhere. Would be great if they could be lured back before then though.

Although I think Lucas is good, we've got plenty of similar players coming through the ranks in Aus Rugby, Lolesio, Edmed, Donaldson, Harrison, Pasitoa etc...
Harry Hockings on the other hand, Australia are seriously lacking proper 2nd rowers, we are full of hybrid players.

Yeah, more a case of want then need for Lucas and would probably be for another team given the tahs depth at 10.

Still so much up in the air around 10 and 15 for the wallabies after the world cup though, more options is always a positive.

Look at it this way: the ACT isn't a real state, being wholly within NSW - you're going to expect them to show up in here sooner or later...

A few of those a bit disappointing. With Cridge, Williams, Bokenham and Douglas all going we actually no longer have a single specialist lock, only a group of (albeit quite good) lock/6 hybrid players in Holloway, Hanigan and Sinclair. You would have thought with that much talent leaving in one position, at least one of the young guys may have spotted an opportunity if they stuck around. I think Williams is the one with the most potential.
Other losses I think disappointing are Robertson, again with Grant going I thought an opportunity might have appeared, as he looks pretty good to me. I guess we will be looking for Wilson or Goddard to step up.
The last is Ramm. Injury ruined his season, and I guess he saw with the form of Mark N (Nawaqanitawase) and Peitsch it was going to be hard to get back in, but with no fullback next year it may have been an opportunity. The guy has all the natural attributes, a sound defender, serious speed and a huge boot. I hope he goes well.
Tizzano is a talent, but with Gamble and Hooper there really wasn't an opportunity for him, so hope he finds a chance elsewhere. Grant was at his ceiling, and I don't think the loss of Roberts, Smith, Funa or Reilly will cause much trouble.

Yes, the clean out of locks is leaving the biggest hole in the roster.

Isn’t Bokenham a young guy? I thought it was quite highly rated by some here. Is that a surprise?
