Waratahs 2022

I hate to admit it but the Shute Shield is slowly losing it's grip as the premier club comp in the country. I'd say the Hospital Cup in Brisbane is a far better comp and a more even comp, even the last placed Sunnybank beat Easts last season who were reigning Premiers. I couldn't see Parramatta knocking off anyone in the Sydney comp let alone Gordon or Uni etc.... Parramatta looked so unfit it wasnt funny....

You mean reigning Premiers Easts who didn't make the finals in 2021 and lost a bunch of key players from their Premiership side?

I wish I could agree with you, but when you actually look at the context of your post, it shows how volatile the Hospital Cup can be, Easts lost 5 players from their main 2020 squad and absolutely capitulated last year.

Again, how is Hansen going to Ireland the Tah's fault/problem?
Interested to see how many twists and turns needed to make the two events correlate so it to becomes irrefutably the Tahs fault....
There are a few brumby fanboy/Tah knockers on the site who could easily make it work.............................now go! ;)

The sorry tale of how the Tahs caused Mack Hansen to leave Aust and become an Irish international....

Mack Hansen
- My contract is up for renewal, my manager has advised that I have a good offer on the table from an Irish club, but it's still my dream to play for the Wallabies. What can we do here?

Brumbies Management - Well Mack, we really love you and are especially keen to retain you as you are one of our very few local ACT juniors.

MH - Great, so what are you proposing?

BM - Well Mack, the thing is we have Tom Wright, Solomone Kata and Andy Muirhead who we all rate above you in the pecking order, But because we are so keen to retain your services we'll happily offer you the minimum possible contract and plenty of game time for the Gungahlin Eagles! As you'll rarely be travelling with the team you'll have plenty of time for a part time job to top up your minimum Super Rugby contract! !!

Oh, I almost forgot to mention, we also signed Jesse Mogg, a Brumbies fan favourite, to provide even more cover for the o/s backs. How lucky are we!! You'll have plenty of experienced campaigners to learn from whilst watching from the stands over the next few years! How good is that!!!

MH - Seriously? Thanks but no thanks, I'll be off to the Emerald Isle to try my luck there, you never know..... I'm Irish eligible too! Maybe after slogging it out there for a few years I'll get a decent shot!

BM - Really gutted that you don't want to stick around Mack, but we really do wish you all the best in Ireland, perhaps you'll come back a better player so we can give you some game time.

MH - See ya!

6 months later....

MH
- MOM in my first international for Ireland! Thank God I left the Brumbies!!

BM - Those F#%king Tahs screwed us again!!!!!!!!!!!

The End

(P.S. This is obviously satire..... ;) )

What's disturbing about it? Who doesn't make mistakes in a game?

Seriously, Beale is significant a step up in both talent and experience from most of the backs in the Tahs squad. He would provide a level of experience that they desperately need. Can play every backline position from 10 to 15. Why wouldn't you want him?

Perhaps, and just perhaps, Rennie could be a slightly better judge of rugby talent than you.

Rennie specifically said there are no guarantees for Beale or anyone else, but he is still backing himself to have a crack at a spot in 2023 whilst also taking a massive haircut in cash. Says a lot about the bloke in contrast to some other o/s wallabies who are just chasing the cash.
So why did he leave in the first place then? To chase the cash? Beale’s best days are behind him unfortunately. Happy to be proved wrong. I guess Rennie is just desperate to have a fullback because he does not rate what we have here. If you watch him closely in the Wallaby games he played last tour, he wasn’t any better than Banks or Hodge.... imo....

I have the same concerns about Roberts but the majority on here are excited about the added experience etc ........................

My recollection was that the Tahs released a number of senior, highly paid players, to primarily reduce the salary bill at the beginning of COVID in 2020. Hence Hooper, Beale and Hanigan and others headed offshore with the blessing of the Tahs who were more concerned with insolvency than winning games at the time. All the above were understood to be happy to stay as well but left reluctantly to effectively take one for the team. The fact that they are all on the way back for far less then they were earning o/s tells you all you need to know.

Not assuming - just curious as to how this has dominated the last couple of pages of discussion for the Tahs '22 season?

Because if there's ever something wrong,

Beale's best days are behind him. He can still play at a good level though and he brings a lot of experience and leadership to the team.

Fullback is a position of weakness for the Wallabies though and I can see his interest in chasing a 4th RWC, particularly as Rennie clearly has some interest.

Beale was good in the last test of the Spring Tour so certainly after a few weeks with the squad he looked much better.

His form was atrocious before he left Australia in 2020 and he clearly needed a change. He has produced very good form for a lot of his time overseas and has been a big part of Racing being a successful team.

We'd be better off having Beale around than not. It's that simple.

What if Banks, Petaia, Hodge and Wright (i guess?) all break their leg ahead of the test season. Australian rugby's problem has always been depth. It'd be weird to argue that we should have less depth because the back-up options are worse than the starters.

And the Tahs are an asbolute horrorshow right now. Literally any professional player willing to play for them is probably an upgrade.

I really am trying to work out why discussion of Hansen is in the tahs thread. The guy wanted a change and Ireland we’re offering big money plus Irish qualified. Do you really think he would have been interested in the tahs (vs brumbies) given what a basket case the tahs have been in recent years.
