So a week and a bit before kick off, I'll have a crack at 23 for round 1

Bell
Porecki
HJH (Harry Johnson-Holmes)
Holloway
Douglas/Cridge
Swinton
Tizzano
Warren-Vosayaco
Gordon
Donaldson
Perese
Roberts
Foketi
Funa
Ramm

Smith
Horton
Tauakipulu
Cridge/Douglas
Gleeson
Grant
Edmed
Newsome/Nawaqa

Hedged on a couple, Not sure if Tizzano is in the mix or injured. Otherwise Gamble.

Tough to make calls on Roberts, Cridge as well as they are late on the scene, but Roberts a strong contender if fitness ok

Hooper and Hanigan due later in the season plus Harrison, Walton and Tuipulotu to be available later when fit.

I really am trying to work out why discussion of Hansen is in the tahs thread. The guy wanted a change and Ireland we’re offering big money plus Irish qualified. Do you really think he would have been interested in the tahs (vs brumbies) given what a basket case the tahs have been in recent years.
Someone... can't be bothered trawling through the thread to name names, had a little crack at the Tahs for not signing Hansen..... alluding that they (Tahs) are desperate, crap and should have signed Hanson up on enough coin to keep him playing here in Aust. Therefore Tahs to blame for him leaving etc. etc. It then kicked off along the lines of WTF et al and here we are! ;)

Is Ramm fit?

So, as always, at the start of every rugby season I get excited of the possibilities like every rugby fan. As a rusted on NSW supporter I can’t wait and this side looks good... depth is always the issue... starting against the new Fijian side at the new Stadium in Parramatta it will be great! It would be good if Roberts is fit but I see Perese and Foketi as the centres with either Newsome or Turner on the wing .. otherwise your selections look spot on...
May we all have some good stuff to crap on about this year and forget some bloke from the ACT who is now drinking Guinness!

Two weeks until kick-off, the Drau game is a massive banana skin game. The boys better turn up! This weekend game against the Reds will give us an indication of what the starting lineup will be.

Ps: yep over the whole Hansen thing, he might as well be playing for Russia for all I care, he decided to go, goodbye and good luck. Time to move on

Is there such thing as a banana skin game for the Tahs currently?

Season 2022 for the Tahs according to everyone who isn't a Tahs fan - "BECAUSE THEY'RE THE BIGGEST PROVINCE AND SHOULD WIN EVERY YEAR BECAUSE THEY'RE PRACTICALLY RUGBY AUSTRALIA UNLIKE US POOR BRUMBIES SUPPORT- eh what?"

Not assuming - just curious as to how this has dominated the last couple of pages of discussion for the Tahs '22 season?
Yeah - that was the point I was making too. I just thought I’d approach it a bit more left field.

I think Beale has become a different player. It's not unreasonable that he's improved in a different professional set up, playing with World XV players like Finn Russell & Vakatawa.

He's been playing a lot of centre and can do a surprisingly good crash ball now. I was also listening to a podcast with Mike Prendergast, the attacking coach of Racing 92 and he said that Beale had the best cross the body pass he's ever seen. Definitely has hands that Hodge and Banks don't. Check out any recent match highlights (like here in his game from the weekend) and you'll see him get a couple assists each game.

I'd rather him than Nawaqanitawase.

I’ll name names… it was @Brumby Runner

Surely this is a match we are a chance of winning! After last season there's no way I can be as positive as suggesting it's a match that we have to be careful we don't lose.
I honestly think that the Drua will win a few, BUT being their first game and combined with the boys being super pumped to erased last year, I reckon we are a chance.

Hell I don't know but hopefully we get it done

Bloody Hooper is being paid by Wallabies and Tah's to have a 4 month holiday after getting paid last year to play in Japan.. RA wasting millions on a guy whos sitting out...

First they let Mack go to Ireland, now there paying Hooper to sit out..

this is excellent trolling, however everyone knows best to rest hoops for the micky-mouse section of the comp to have him fit and firing for NZ teams and finals. Sorry he is stealing a wage off Mack.

I think you have to be more open minded to Beale as there is not a plethora of top class pro players out there to choose from. He has been playing good rugby in Europe and sure had moments of brilliance and moments of ordinary but even on that basis to me should always be welcome back given lack of depth in super rugby.

I think people should be prepared to be more open to players like Beale returning from Europe and less negative about it given state of oz rugby and our super rugby performances as Tahs are not the crusaders, blues, highlanders etc with more depth options to call on.

Hence welcome home Kurtley and look forward to your return in 2023.

So this trial match is likely to start with our starting squad. So I'm predicting:

1 Bell
2 Porecki
3 Johnson-Holmes
4 Holloway
5 Douglas
6 Swinton
7 Gamble
8 Warren-Vosayaco
9 Jake
10 Donno
11 Turner
12 Foketi
13 Perese
14 Funa (Ramm upon Harro return)
15 Ramm (Harro upon return)

16 Horton
17 Smith
18 Tauakipulu
19 Cridge (I haven't been paying enough attention to this position to have a firm name)
20 Tizzano/Harris (depending on the plan for the game)
21 Edmed
22 Roberts
23 Newsome/Nawaqanitawase (Funa upon Harro return)

Personally I prefer Tizzano in 7 & Harro in 10, but coaches and most others tend to prefer Gamble & Donaldson in those jerseys, I can't see my personal preference being the way those jerseys get filled (I'm talking after Harro's return from injury, obviously).

Harris is doing a brilliant job but I think the reverse bug (WV) currently edges him out. It's very close, though. I'm rooting for him to improve and claim the 8 jersey as his own.

I want to like Nawaqanitawase, especially after the Statue Of David comments on twitter / in podcasts. But in the trials he was still coughing up too many balls and not being even remotely evasive when tackled. Getting bundled over the sideline etc too easily.

Newsome was better in the trials than he's been to my eyes the last few years of Super Rugby. So I'm undecided between him & Nawaqanitawase at 23 (until Harro's return).

I'm really hoping Horton can learn to throw accurately and claim the 2 jersey. But I haven't seen enough in the trials to think he can do that yet. As with Harris, I'm rooting for the improvement and stepping up the pecking order.

I haven't been paying enough attention to the locks to really have firm names in the positions. Holloway, Douglas, Sinclair, Cridge, any combination of those 4 names leaves me more than satisfied.

I also need to pay more attention to our alternate props. Starting props I have certain people locked in. Bench & injury props I really couldn't say which names are best.

Fair points... his experience is

definitely worth the punt I suppose but not totally convinced. Again, I hope he proves me wrong if he is eventually signed..

The Reds trial this weekend plus the first game against the Fijian side will definitely show how the new coach is working his troops.
I think Tizzano may be injured? He is a good player and should start.
Harris has potential but as you say will probably be on the bench.
Backline should be as you said although Newsome may start ahead of Turner which would have Grant as a half on the bench, Edmed 10 and 12 sub and possibly the new man Roberts on the bench as back up depending on this weeks trial and his fitness.
Ramm has the ability to play the 15 role which will be interesting to see how that pans out.
Donaldson has patiently waited in the shadow of his good friend Harrison but look to see him unleash the backline and claiming the 10 jersey permanently.
Funa looked good in the Brumby trial as did Turner. Marky is there abouts as well but may miss out on the 23.
Making the final 8 would be a great outcome if the squad can maintain their defence. They showed last year they can definitely score points.
Looking forward to the season opener.
