Waratahs 2022

I’ve heard injured, foot/ankle injury

Fox have it as a Lisfranc, with his return being managed conservatively at the request of RA:

Meanwhile, Wallabies captain Michael Hooper is not expected to take to the field for the Waratahs until the middle of the season.

Hooper is recovering from a Lisfranc injury and will not be rushed back, with the Waratahs and RA in agreement that an extended break is not a bad thing ahead of a big lead-in to the World Cup, which includes three Tests against England in July.

Yikes. Presumably it's not a bad one given there's no reports (that I've seen) that he's had surgery. Lisfranc injuries are notoriously difficult.

Not good for this season for the tahs, but I guess it might reduce any pressure of expectation straight up and give Coleman time to work out what he's working with without having a best in the world player arrive to paper over some of the cracks.

I think the change of the logo was a mistake. I know it was a marketing move because if you call a team as a state, people outside rugby niche can see themselves as part of the team and support it (That has not happened) but in terms of a good logo, the new one looks too loaded.

I mean, if you look the last 3 logos, the 1996-2018 is the best by far. For me it's the perfect logo:

Is your issue just that the have included the "NSW Rugby" text in the logo?

I'm not usually one to defend the tahs, but they've always been known as the NSW Waratahs, adding it to the logo is such a minor change. Not to mention super rugby as a whole often struggled from a marketing perspective with teams not associated closely enough with their home city/states, or at least that has been a common argument in Australia. It would've been hugely hypocritical for Australian sides to be arguing South African and New Zealand sides should more prominently feature their home regions and not be doing it themselves.

Other than that I think the new(er) logo is an improvement - the dark blue bordering helps when it's used largely on a light blue background. I can't say I remember anyone complaining about it in the 4 years they've been using it.

^ the SA and NZ Super Rugby sides were/are also a collective of smaller provincial sides. Whereas our teams already represent a larger state. As an example I work with a kiwi fan of Otago and the Highlanders, not the Otago Highlanders, because that leaves out Southland and North Otago. And to include them would make the name cumbersome. I of course always call them the Otago Highlanders just to annoy him.
But adding NSW rugby does make the logo much more specific as to what it represents to someone who doesn’t know rugby/sport. I personally wish they’d gone with a stylised/cleaner version of the older Waratah that doesn’t incorporating the ball and isn’t dwarfed by the wording.

Not really in SA. Each of the SA franchises came from well established representative states ("Province" in SA means basically the same as "State" in Aus). Deals were done over time between non-Super provinces and the franchises as talent feeders, but they continued to play each other in Curry Cup.

I stand corrected. I was always under the impression they had the same system as NZ as the Curry Cup was already a thing pre Super Rugby.

Obviously is not an issue. Just in terms of marketing, probably the last Tahs jerseys are more loaded than the oldest ones.

Look at this example: I bought this jersey, the 2012 Waratahs jersey:

And then compare with the 2021 jersey:

The more loaded jersey is less atractive than the other and if you add more letters to the logo is less attractive IMO

Obviously the more important thing is the performance of the team. The 2012 squad was 5 times powerfull than the 2021, and that's the best marketing you can get but into the minor things you can improve in every item.

I very like the old logo and for me was the best, that's all. Is not a major issue, it's just a commentary. Probably the old logo remember me the old good days and the new remember the current status of the team, is a possibility

You can put that in the old one and in the away jersey the letters were white:

It's just a preseason topic

The first couple of days of training would have sucked. It doesn't matter how fit you are, adjusting to the temperature and humidity differential is always going to be nasty.

Harder grounds, too. That's what really worries me about his time with the Tahs.
