How long does a hard bred kiwi need to be in Australia before they become soft?

Does it happen instantaneously it is there a half life?

I'm pretty sure you'll find that it's inversely proportional to how far from downtown Onehunga one was born:

EDIT: BThorn b Mosgiel, 1,570km from Onehunga = really, really hard bastard.
CFarrell b Auckland: unsure of suburb but has to be >50km from Onehunga, not so much :)

Nah mate, your theory completely crumbles when you look at the current players.
QC (Quade Cooper), Will Skelton, Dean Mumm are all born in Auckland and are hard as an overcooked ANZAC bikkie

You could put forward the argument that Australians are soft in all walks of life, not just rugby. We have it better than most. Comfort rarely breeds hard men.

A mate of mine who is from Yorkshire, but been here 20 years, would agree with you, and reckons we are generally a bit softer and lazier, and he reckons it is mainly because it is too nice (weather-wise) and easy, to keep people more hard-edged and motivated.

Funnily enough I was watching the SBS weather last night and saw Auckland was predicted to have a balmy 21 today.
The Blues results support your mate's theory - I wonder what the cutoff temperature is and how warm it is in Hamilton today..........
EDIT: Hmmmm max 17.........this theory works.
Colder in Canberra (and far less to do) than Brisvegas or Sydney

^^^^^^^^^^^ 20C after an overnight low of 6. Auckland's overnight low was 12C but that's to be expected given it's coastal not 50km inland.

Wellington min 13 max 16
Christchurch min 7 max 15
Dunedin min 9 max 18

Personally I reckon it's all about the min'ms & the proximity of ice & snow :)

Seems to be plenty of hard blokes in Mungo. And AFL.

Reckon there's some tough people in our Women's 7s too.

Yeah they are probably from the hard arse public school system - that the governing bodies pay little attention to.

I've reached a Nadir, DB. I'm going to the Subbies Balmain v Mossman on Saturday. In time MIGHT even try some SS. Got to get my rugby fix from somewhere for Christ's sake. Sure is not going to be in Super R 2017.

You will no doubt see guys enjoying their rugby, having fun, and flipping some sausages. Great things about rugby

OK let's hold back on the big promises. Been let down too many times.

Sausages eh? Enjoying rugby - serious? Where does that happen?

Anyway --- back to the Tahs.

Festival of hate weekend. Hunt is into it. Who's stepping up for the Mexicans?

Mexicans are from Victoria. Or Mexico. I'm not sure any of them care about the Tahs.

^^^Rest assured all the Mexicans I know really do care about the Tahs; passionately! They really care that the Tahs get absolutely humiliated like last week on every single occasion by any and every opposition they face. They will even care so much as to hope they have a sh*t week on the training paddock and they get knots in their rope and strangle each other.

BTW, checked with a Mexican bloke I know at work and he said this:

Sí, nos preocupamos por los Tahs. ¡Hacen que nuestros equipos de Rugby se vean bien! ¡Vayan los rojos!

All this talk about getting rid of the Force or the Rebels, however, I'd much prefer the Waratahs, and on top of that Nick Phipps is unable to resign with any other Australian team.
