Waratahs 2017

[GTPIH]

In their wisdom the Tahs are holding another members forum tomorrow night at the SFS. After the fiasco of the last fan forum held in the Foley era and their form so far this year, they're probably regretting that decision right now.

They did learn some lessons from the last forum - all questions had to be submitted by midday today. No doubt they'll 'run out of time' for any of the inflammatory questions!!!

why at Shute Shield and NRC level does the passing etc appear to be better than what the Tahs did tonight. Is practice the difference?

To be honest I miss the NRC already as sure whilst the standard was not that of super rugby it was still a good standard, more entertaining format with point scoring system encouraging attacking rugby and generally close games...and first and foremost regular content I could easily engage in and games I could regularly go to live that were easily accessible.

I think people are really missing out personally not going to more NRC games as much better value for money for me. Anyhow not the thread for this.

Whilst some concerns about Gibson regardless he should see out the season and a review been done at end of season to consider if he should go. Be interested to see how Cron could go but yes big step up so maybe expectations he could do better a little premature. Still interested to see what Cron could do at higher levels of coaching.

He said recently his focused on the under 20s and wouldnt be inrested in brumbies HC.. You think he'd want the Tahs HC? .. Maybe his waiting for the bigger job.. dunno

Sydney based fellow cron _ he would have to be top of the list to replace Gibson and as an aussie that would give him a heads up. Does ok with under 20's and tahs come 4th or 5th in oz conference you would have to think Cron would be given the chance to coach the tahs as one can't doubt what he has done with Norths is impressive and hence his coaching credentials highly regarded to be seriously considered for tahs gig. As if at least Better local or as good local coaching option I would think that is the preferable model they would want to go down.

Yep he would be good for the brumbies but I think the tahs show they probably need Simon more. After all the changes of cattle from last season I thought the brumbies had one of the weakest rosters but they are easily showing themselves to be best in oz conference and only side to be at least consistently competitive against nz and sa sides. Got to give a lot of credit to the quality of brumbies coaching and setup to produce results so far with cattle they have as like always shown they prove to get the best out of players. Those who have lamblasted larkham as a terrible coach should hang their head in shame and admit they were wrong in their judgment of him.

Oh that's right, there was a (cross out the non-nominated excuse) sweat, dew, sheen of mud, dust, piece of grass, sun, rain, moon light, incorrect sponsor printing on the ball...

i laughed uproariously when the Fox commentary team used that one as an excuse. The game wasn't very old and the ball was pristine white.
They seem to forget how the hooker cleans the ball before every line out.

Norths are playing a very good brand of rugby, no doubt about it.

Don't be ridiculous, it's obvious to do with the speed and structure of the defensive line.

Maybe also the fact that the players pass the ball continuously at that get together called training.

If the line speed thing was so huge a factor why can the NZ sides pull off this marvellous thing called passing, under pressure, in the rain, under water........

I do not accept their players are more talented, they are better trained in depth and repetition of core skills. The best example remains AAC (Adam Ashley-Cooper) becoming a test centurion and not being able to effectively and consistently pass the ball, though Izzy is now starting to catch up to him and as for Phipps talk about regression.

It would be absolutely absurd to sack a coach at this stage of the season.

Cron is a Kiwi but has only coached in Australia. His uncle is Mike Cron the ABs scrum coach and cousin is with the Hurricanes coaching team. He played rugby in Christchurch for many years.

Sure, he has to take a part of the responsibility for the debacle that is the start of the 2017 season, but you can't make a silk purse out of a sow's ear. The guys on the paddock have to take responsibility for the lack of concentration and lack of commitment.

I agree,
I thought the brumbies game turned, when Holloway gave away a stupid penalty when we were in possession.
They kicked to the corner,scored,and went 7 up.
That's not the coaches fault.

The game was the players to lose - even when it was tied 7 apiece, the Tahs had scoring opportunities and gave them up.

Holloway's brain fade definitely stopped a good scoring opportunity.

Its Gibson's game plan that failed last year and this year. Small mobile back rowers and running them wide doesn't work against big forwards that go up the middle and smash our smaller light pack. South Africa showed it and so did the Brumbies and Force. He stated in an interview that he was reviewing the back then picked the same ones.
