And what is happening on the field is directly down to him. The poor passing, poor handling, backs running into each other, poor scrum all speak of a near enough is good enough environment at training. Not to mention a poor appointment of a scrum coach (which is also down to the head coach)

It might be harsh, but in the world of professional sport, the buck stops with the head coach. No way in two years should we have gone from champs to chumps.

Surely what happens on the field is directly down to the players? It's not the job of a coach at this level to teach people how to catch and pass. Players have to execute. That's their job and it's their responsibility to do it well.

Wouldn't be too fussed, Cheika's first year was full of frustrating splutters like we're seeing now. as long as the attacking potential is there they will develop finesse over time.

People forget that we're operating without one of the classiest outside backs in the world and the best Tighthead in Australia.

Agreed. We're also suffering from several key players being out of form at the same time. Folau clearly hasn't yet come back 100% from his op. Hooper is quiet by his high standards. In a close competition against equally good opposition that can mean a team is suddenly uncompetitive. I think that's where the Waratahs are now. Sadly that means this season could already be gone.

Well Roger Davis hasn't covered himself in glory with the people of Western Sydney. This was on the back page of the Tele:

Waratahs' kick in the teeth for Western Sydney

THIS is how the Waratahs appear to view Western Sydney - a barren wasteland where their Super Rugby team would go to die.

Under Premier Mike Baird's $1.6 billion stadiums policy, the Waratahs would be forced to find a new home while Allianz Stadium is knocked down and rebuilt. But Waratahs chairman Roger Davis yesterday made it clear - his club doesn't belong in the golden west and wants nothing to do with with ANZ Stadium.

"We will now be drifting around like the children of Israel around Western Sydney looking for a place to play. We now appear to be homeless," Davis said.

Davis' comments came on the same day the ARU launched a strategic plan identifying Western Sydney as a key focus for growth.
.......

So if we have a 35,000 crowd, we can't play there." Pressed as to whether he was saying a move to Western Sydney"would spell disaster" for the Waratahs, Davis said: "Yep. That would be my expectation. Given where our fans are based, where our loyalty lies, where our training facilities are, where our office facilities are, it would be a bridge too far." Davis' comments are at odds with the Waratahs' marketing theme - "Playing for NSW" - and came on the same day the ARU launched a plan identifying Western Sydney as a key focus for growth..

What a stupid thing to say. Just re-affirms every stereotype about rugby and goes against everything the Tahs are trying to achieve.

EDIT: I mean, the Daily Telegraph has spent the last three days doing a big Western Sydney campaign. The ARU has just released a report pushing for more investment in Western Sydney. Where is your fucking brain, Roger?

Seriously, if you are asked a question by the Telegraph about Western Sydney, have a think before you open your mouth. It's a touchy subject and if you go spouting shit that implies Western Sydney is a barren wasteland then you should expect to be called on it and smeared on the back page of the Tele.

If I were Bill Pulver I'd be tearing my hair out. To say the Tahs 'loyalties' don't lie in Western Sydney?? This is incredibly stupid behaviour.

It would concern me less if the game plan looked like anything new

I think there is a fair but new.

More ball movement away from the initial contact point, more ball movement generally.

To me it is the what happens next has been the let down.

The passer must become the blocker or the support runner for it to work effectively

Ah! Now we see the bias inherent in the system! Just because it starts WEST of Anzac Parade you "rugby people" want nothing to do with it!

;)
Nope, it's not the west bit, it's just too far south.
besides, my mummy taught me how to cross a rd at traffic lights.
I'm not walking an extra km to use a bridge instead of a pedestrian crossing.
Maybe if pollies didn't commute exclusively in limo's, they might have worked out the $38M was solving a problem that didn't exist:)

So Allianz will be refurbished, not rebuilt.

Good news for the Tahs, who probably won't have to relocate, and will get a nicer stadium to play in.

I think it's a perfectly reasonable outcome. I just wouldn't be spending so much money upgrading ANZ but that is another issue.

The SFS is a great venue to watch sport, it just has shitty facilities.

They badly need to upgrade the food and beverage but everything else is good.

The light rail will improve access from Central for those that aren't happy with the current arrangements.

Only if any any money is left after Parramatta and Homebush are done, the stink over being homeless has left the SFS as the poor ugly sister. Apparently it is laden with issues and will be more expensive the retro fit than it would have been to knock down.

The stakeholders (well the Roosters) wanted a new stadium built on the Moore Park park land, then the SFS be knocked down and turned into parkland (so they didn't have to move), instead they get a coat of paint if there is any money left

Whatever funds remain will be spent on improving the facilities at Allianz Stadium at Moore Park.
The decision is a remarkable about-face, after Mr Ayres told 2GB presenter and SCG Trustee Alan Jones on Monday that an upgrade of Allianz Stadium, along the lines now proposed, would not work.

"The bones of that building simply don't meet the modern standard for stadiums," he said.

"I'm not going to expose the taxpayer to a renovation that doesn't deliver a world-class outcome when that is our primary objective," he said.
Asked about these comments at the press conference on Thursday, Mr Ayres said after the ANZ and Parramatta projects were complete, the government would deliver "the best possible upgrade we can" at Allianz.

"We are investing in a fantastic new rectangular bowl at ANZ, we are investing in a new stadium at Parramatta, there won't be enough money left for a new stadium at Allianz," he said.

"So we will be taking whatever's left in that envelope to invest in making sure that that stadium gets whatever upgrade that we can get for the best value for the taxpayer."

the RIP Waratahs was because of the team list released today. Much better front row but palu on the bench still, just let Holloway go the 80!kellaway is a gamble. I can't really argue that much I was calling for a shake up 2 weeks ago

It's actually hard to believe that a person running any major sport in this state could even think such crap, let alone say it.

Maybe he has a short memory, or maybe he's just a boofhead, but he should be reminded that when the Waratahs played 2 games a season at ANZ, they drew 5-10 thousand more than at Alliance.

And today we have the Pulveriser out at Homebush (and quite rightly so) as Baird announces the upgrade to ANZ.

This quality rant prompted me to quickly check his bio.
I quickly scanned the bio's of the other 4 directors and ,literally laughed out loud.
Who lists amongst their achievements in 30 odd years of employment, where they went to School?
We have old boys from Kings,Shore & Joeys. Huge diversity !
How Sally Loane got a gig, openly admitting she is not a GPS old boy, I'll never know!

Did the Tahs really draw 5-10k more at ANZ? I'm not saying it isn't true but I'd like to see figures.
