The marketing staff will be training hard for that game during the bye week.

I think the product is getting there, the crowds will return. But many feel like a beaten, teased dog, they have been tricked before, spent their money only to be delivered dross. It will take a while for the trust to return.

You have one of the biggest names in oz Sport at the moment, which hasn't happened in rugby for some time (perhaps a decade?) so they should be all over these or any opportunities.

So what you're saying is that Israel Folau should get kicked off a plane and get in a fight with a bouncer during the week off? Preferably at the same time.

I like it. It can be the Tahs new guerilla marketing campaign.

exactly, its a shame fp but your team is running hot at the moment. Its up to the marketing team to take advantage of that. They need to engage with the fans somehow because it doesn't seem to be happening.

The marketing will no doubt highlight Folua instead what has really improved, the multiple pass team tries

The problem with rugby marketers is they think trying to highlight the clever or philosophical bits of rugby is the way to go. Look back at the ad campaigns:

Razzle dazzle - featuring songs from a musical, and Matt Giteau grinning like an idiot.

Butterflies - Clyde Rathbone sitting in a darkened locker room.

Go look at the NRL ads where they emphasise the big hits and tries and keep it bloody simple. AFL use the athleticism of their game as well as all the physical attributes required.

Rugby is chess versus checkers compared to league, but FFS in a 15 second ad break you can do a hell of a lot with checkers.

Perhaps time to rehash a suggestion made by others here a couple of years ago: Put on a competition for fans to put together a 15 or 30 second ad for the Tahs, using whatever match footage they can find on Youtube, etc. The best one or two get remade into professional TV spots. Engages the fans, relatively cheap, and as a byproduct you get a heap of good videos circulating the web, in addition to the one or two that win.

I dont think people realise that if we don't return to the Tahs in massive numbers, the game will continue to decline in NSW. The profitablity of the Tahs determines how much NSW rugby receives.
We should be ashamed of ourselves as Tahs fans thus far this season.
We have 6 games left - get everyone you can to the remaining games. Its simple.

He probably isn't on Twitter or Instagram so the interns wouldn't know who he is to contact him to see if he is interested. Its a shame, we could use all the publicity we can get!

Official twitter account: @GerardButler

Not much activity on it though.

Best bet may be to go through his management which USARugger has provided a link for.

Whilst twitter can work, best practise dictates you get the name of his agency through google then call any and every number until you reach someone who is influential enough to make it happen.

In the ad world, strategists talk about finding the 'forgotten truth' behind a product, that thing that when pointed out has people go "damn, that's right!" and have a sudden, renewed or new connection.

If I'm comparing rugby to league or AFL, I think there are two huge differences:

1. Sustained build-up elevates tension which then explodes into scintillating tries built on incredible skill.
2. Rugby represents Australia in ways that neither AFL nor league can.

I'd be wanting to show how exciting that moment when grit and grind gives ways to explosive skill, and, at least for the Wallabies, how much rugby moments can mean for Australia.

As for the Waratahs, I reckon they need to do a lot less mud-splattered stares and a lot more action.

Tilse, Latu, Holloway, McCutcheon, Gray, McKibbin, Lance, Horne, Carraro, Volavola, Crawford all starting for Gen Blue tomorrow.

Roach and Lucas the two contracted players on the bench.

Very strong team, just highlights the depth we have this year.

I think it's good that plenty of the matchday 23 reserves are getting a run in this game considering it's a bye week.

The only two bench players from Saturday night not playing are Kepu and Skelton which is understandable. They've both been getting a fair amount of rugby.

I actually don't like the "vacant" expressionless images of rugby players used to advertise each team as I don't find the images engaging. It can also come off as a bit arrogant.

If you go look at the Waratahs or Reds homepages, those images are just in your face. Don't. Like.

Then look at the Force, Brumbies or Rebels homepages and see if you find those images more engaging. I definitely do, particularly the Force page with the images of the fans, not the players.

What's the relationship between Volvo and Jeep in Australia? Is this a slip-up or just part of the marketing process?

you'd be surprised how many players have individual car deals. It plays havoc with a major sponsor like Volvo, but there's nothing really stopping the players from doing it. They just cant be in team gear to support. I know a couple of Reds turned up to a private car sponsor event a couple of years ago in kit and it did not go over well.

That is a surprise, especially going directly against the major sponsor. I suppose Volvo would have been warned about the possibility, but I'd be livid if I was controlling their sponsorship dollars.

they sponsor the team, not the players.

its why any sponsor ad needs to have at least 4 (I think its 4) players in it, so its clear they are sponsoring the team and not the individuals.
