I liked the bit from the Tahs vs Reds post match press conference about halfbacks. A journo asked Cheika about Phipps' impact on the Tahs and Cheika said that it was more that all three halfbacks are putting pressure on each other and the competition for the spot is fierce.

He said that the standard shown by all three of them at every training session is the reason why Phipps is going so well. Once the selection decision is made the other two then focus on helping the first choice halfback prepare for the weekend (I'm not really sure what that involves).

It's great to see as halfback has been a problem for the Tahs since Burgess left. The fact that Lucas is playing so well for Gen Blue and is still the third choice halfback is great for the Tahs. Phipps is having to work hard (and playing very well) to hold out McKibbin who is playing well to hold out Lucas.

Haha that was me!

With the extensive media coverage the Swans received from Modern Family’s Sofia Vegara turning up to training recently, the Tahs should consider inviting actor Gerard Butler, who is in Sydney to film Gods of Egypt next door at Fox Studios, to Tahs training and home matches.

However, unlike Vegara who probably had little idea about the AFL, Butler (a Scotsman and a sports fan), would at least have an awareness of rugby (pic is from a L'Oreal ad shoot).

It could be a good PR exercise if they could get him seen at Tahs home games or at training (with a Tahs jersey, pics with Izzy or big Will?). The movie studio making Gods of Egypt might go for it too as it would give the film some brand awareness in advance of its release.

It shouldn’t cost much (a few phone calls, some tickets and kit?), but the payoff could result in some much need media coverage for the team. Sydney loves a celebrity so having the Butler associated with the Tahs could be good publicity for the team profile.

So anyone from the Tahs reading this? This is "outside the box”, but it could be worth an attempt. Otherwise, it wouldn’t surprise to see him in Russell Crowe’s box at some Rabbitohs home games during his stay..

I've worked in this space (though not in any high profile roles) and you're bang on the money.

He could come down for 15 minutes, throw the ball around with some of the big names, take some photos, and the next day it'd run in the middle of the sport segment on the news and probably in photo form in the paper.

Both parties would benefit because it never hurts to get your image out there and it'd cost barely any time investment.

Nice idea, consider PR as a career move.

Probably something to do with hair, nails, or teeth.

Like the PR idea for Mr Leonidas as well. Shields and loincloths and shit.

Izzy got his photo taken with her. He tweeted it. Must admit that neither of them had a Tahs jersey. Maybe he was at Swans training.......

I updated post #2750 to include the photo. Judging from the background, looks like it was taken in or around the SCG/SFS. Swans training was at Lakeside Oval opposite the SCG.

Cheers en_force_er!

As he’s arrived a few weeks early to prepare and train for the role, the Tahs should invite him to training. Even better still, if he’s up for it, offer him to chance to train with the team (only the non-contact stuff!) or use of the team gym. He’s played in charity soccer matches in the past so he could be keen to do something different for training.

Who knows if it’s feasible or not, but worth trying. What’s the worst that could happen? He doesn’t respond or says no?

Now, where do I apply for a PR role?:)

You'd have to think any rugby following film star would be pretty keen for that sort of thing. I'd imagine that would be one of the great perks of that sort of fame.

He probably isn't on Twitter or Instagram so the interns wouldn't know who he is to contact him to see if he is interested. Its a shame, we could use all the publicity we can get!

sorry, not really bothered, far more interested in the Tahs lifting their game and putting in 80 minutes of high quality rugby against the Brumbies

The marketing staff will be training hard for that game during the bye week.

exactly, its a shame fp but your team is running hot at the moment. Its up to the marketing team to take advantage of that. They need to engage with the fans somehow because it doesn't seem to be happening.

You have one of the biggest names in oz Sport at the moment, which hasn't happened in rugby for some time (perhaps a decade?) so they should be all over these or any opportunities.
