Apparently he is in charge of attack from set piece.
Announcing this publicly may rob us of the element of surprise, topo. But then a lot of rusted-on 'Tahs supporters might argue that any form of backline attack which does not involve us kicking the pill would be a novelty.

I am hoping that the news is real: A TPV for Izzy - A temporary player visa for Rugby Union.
Refugee from evil NRL salary cap and AFL failure. Izzy has applied for assylum, lucky the Waratahs are the last resort rather than Nauru.
What position should be quarantined for Izzy - Wing?

I can't see signing Folau as anything but a good thing for the Tah's, especially if he's going cheap. It may only be for one season but he would bring a fair bit of interest to the game. He will add some novelty that they need and he will allow the other players to fly under the radar. It might allow AAC (Adam Ashley-Cooper) to play at 13 for the season.

Also he maybe the final piece in the Tah's attacking puzzle. Instead of the old ploy of win the ball, pass it to Barnes, kick to the opposition it may become win the ball, pass it to Barnes, kick, Folau catches the ball and scores.

You have to be in their 22 for that to work. Berrick only likes to kick the ball while he's still in his own half, after the 15th phase of PnD.

So who do we sack to put him in? A guy with no likelihood of hanging around, a guy with little experience, a guy who hasn't played any rugby for two years. A guy unlikely to be trusted to start a match for a while.

Realistically we have two test wingers with good reserves in Betham, Crawford, Kingston & Hodge

I struggle to see to logic in spending money on the guy.

All I can see we really need is another 6, although Holloway may be penciled in as a 5/6

Well, if Folau does sign, it'll be bloody good for gate numbers, I would think. Building a successful franchise is as much about financial management of the club as it is about playing personnel. If Folau raises the profile of the team and -- the big if -- the Waratahs are decent to watch, it will be very much worth the investment.

I get the sense that Folau may put bums on seats - at Marlylands RSL Rugby Park. I just dont think he has what it takes to become successful in the pressure cooker that is Waratahs rugby.

Of course, that may be my bias against NRL talking, or my pessimism from being a Tahs fan, or both.

Israel to join his fourth professional club and 3rd sporting code at the tender age of 23...

Signing him is definitely a double edged sword

If he's not the Tahs 22 why wouldn't he? I'm sure Cheika would be big on that

Considering the likely scenario is that Israel will return to the NRL in 2014, his management will claim 'injury' rather then risk having him injured playing club rugby during negotiation's.

You do remember Jason Robinson don't you. Apparently he played a couple of games of league as well. To suggest that Betham, Crawford and Hodge are a reason not to sign him is an interesting one in the most polite sense.

Falou is a good signing and I reckon will make a really good winger for the tahs and therefore be used as an inside centre for the wallabies.

Amazing. I just can't see the logic from Folau's point of view though - he's rejected what must surely be a better offer from the Eels in order to risk sitting on the bench or playing park football for a season, after showing a distinct lack of interest in learning a new game over the past 2 years.

I'll be interested in Cheika's attitude at the press conference tomorrow - this signing just doesn't seem to fit with his non-nonsense, earn-respect-through-your-actions modus.
